I want to start making videos the right way so I just wanted to note some stuff down hopefully.
I re-download VirtualDubMod after ignoring it to use WMM only. I heard that VDM is supposed to be like Windows Movie Maker's auto-clip slicer where you can put in episode in VDM and spilt it up into like 40 diffrent clips. Since prgrams like SonyVegas does not have that built in clip holder or clicer feature, I figured that how people do it.
Is that correct?
Also, under the auxsetup, should I install the handler? If I don't will that affect VDM as apposed to just clicking Run VDM? If I click BenchMark, what are good test results?
Also, what should I use and how do I "rip" dvds?
I am just tired of WMM and editing with DivX. It takes so long to do and sometimes when I re adjust the size for places like YouTube, my quality is a little off and somtimes even timing is up off.
done being a divx/xvid-er! Questions on VDM

Vegas doesn't have a trimmer? this is news to me...
I mainly use virtualdub mod to convert my vob files into something editable (such as Huffyuv or Lagarith encoded AVI files) and because those files are so large, it's usually best to clip them to save hard drive space.
I'm pretty sure Virtualdub Mod doesn't work in the same way as wmm's auto clip deal, because you have to manually mark the beginning and the end of each clip you want to make...
However after going through and marking the beginning and end, you can save and check the "run in job control" box and go on to the next clip, save and do the same thing till you just end up going through the whole thing and then go to file->job control->start and it will convert them in a batch mode. (which may take a while)

I meant how in WMM, you can upload an episode and WMM will break the episode into smaller incraments of varying in length from .03 seconds to like 20 seconds.JaddziaDax wrote:Vegas doesn't have a trimmer? this is news to me...

.. lets come back down to reality here.
Virtual Dub = VD
1) no Auto-Sclicer - what you feed into it can be trimmed to the size you need.
2) AuxSetup should be installed; those are two Handlers which are required by VD.
3) BenchMarking a Video via VirtualDub is not necessary; your not Frame Serving anything.
.. before we get to far ahead of ourselves here, VirtualDub & VirtualDubMOD are Finisher/Editors. ( no specail Effects like Desolve/Fade/Blend. ) They were designed to Slice & Dice Clips, clean them-up, and rejoin Clips for a final Video presentation. Yes, you can load the Audio track with a WAV and add video clips until the AMV is matching the songs duration. but VD has a flaw in using multi-clips; they all have to be the "same" Frame-Per-Second speed or the clips will be rejected! To match FPS timing of clips, you will need a "Frame Rate Changer" ( something WMM never had to worry about ) ... this is what Virtual Dub can do and its limitations.
4) DVD Ripping; there was a Guide posted that Had six (6) video tutorials on Ripping and Editing for AMV's, it explained the whole process from start to finish.
.. take a clip of video and play with it a while in VD and you may find that WMM is just a Newbe's toy that actually works .. VD can help other editors do their jobs better and is Great for Final Compression of your AMV's .. although Editors can do more than VD, VD & AVIsynch are good tools to have in your Editing Software Collection ( once you learn how and when to use them. )
