Xvid, DivX problems. possible solutions?

I've given up trying to come up with ways to get around that problem. if i had done a little more lurking i might have saved myself some time and gotten to this point faster.

basically, you can't edit with Xvid or DivX codecs. personally i think that's rude since almost all of my videos are saved this way. that's right, rude. fuck MM and Adobe.

anyways... what are my choices? obviously i can dl a new movie editing device, one that works with divX and Xvid, or i can figure out how to change my videos (which are saved as divX and/or Xvid) into something that they can use. my problem is i don't know how to change how they're saved, nor do i know a good useful video editing device.

Don't blame the video editing software, XviD/DivX (MPEG-4 ASP), H.264 (MPEG-4 AVC), and even MPEG-2 codecs were never meant for editing with. While some programs will let you edit them (primarily MPEG-2), it's not recommended to do so especially if you need frame accuracy.

Read this: EADFAG or EADFAG 3.0 beta. The Making Clips portion is the most relevant here.

You'll probably need this: AMVapp 3.0 beta also.

4) export with lagarith codec
5) run through any adobe program, files will move smooth as butter

okay, i've run into a problem with virtual dub.
i've ticked off where i want it to render and i chose the proper codec
then i went to export>striped avi. and it gives me an error
"could not stripe definition file 'blah blah location name'"

the other option was a adobe filmstrip .flm that did save, but when i play it it is nothing but black video.

any ideas ?

Yea, the correct method is "save as" not "export"...

okay, well i can export the whole thing as an avi but it's rather time consuming and stuff. so i figured i'd try the segmented, like setting in and out points then saving between. however it seems i can't o.o dunno why, i figured that'd be simple, the thing says that vd is crashing, then it does. but on an up note, vd is reliable

Er, if you've set in and out points, then choosing "save as" will only take the part between the points you set, not the whole thing. No need to stripe.

And you can also check that little box to allow for batch-processing of clips. This is extremely useful if you really want to fly through a couple of DVDs at a time then process them all in bulk. For an added bonus, you can turn off any cumbersome parts of your script (stuff that doesn't mess with the frame rate) by commenting them out then when you're ready to do the batch processing simply delete the #'s and let the whole thing process for as long as it takes.

okay, well i can export the whole thing as an avi but it's rather time consuming and stuff.

lol, if you're not willing to put work into it, why do it? I went through 37 death note episodes and piece by piece, ripped out certain clips, i ended up with 400 selected clips frmo the 37 episodes, all organized, named them with what goes on in the clip, and put them into sections/folders as to what was going on in them.

it takes work but it's worth it
