Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 MKV Support?
Is there any way to get Adobe Premiere to support MKV files or it simply just doesn't support it?

Well, I basically use MKVEXtractGUI to take out the h264 AVI file and then import it to Premiere. The problem with any type of change to a file is that I have to keep those extra files and it uses a lot of space instead of me just being able to import the original file. You think making it into uncompressed/lossless AVIs using VirtualDubMod is better than importing the original AVI inside the MKV? Cause that makes EVEN MORE space wasting. Many encoding programs just import the decoders already installed on the computer. Is there any way to do that with Adobe Premiere CS3 or maybe some alternate way of importing MKVs?The Origonal Head Hunter wrote:haven't tried, but it's probably best to convert them to uncompressed/lossless avi's with VirtualDubMod and then load them in premiere.

I'm just saying that I'm able to import what I need by muxing out the video track from the MKV. The problem is, that means that I have to keep extra files just for editing purposes and it's a waste of space, instead of me just being able to import the original MKV encodes. The Origonal Head Hunter wrote:why do you need to keep the ripped file once you've converted it to lossless, or am I just misunderstanding there?
Now, if you're ABSOLUTELY SURE that there's no way to import the original MKV files, my next question was whether it's better to do what I'm doing now which is just to rip out the original AVI in the MKV or whether it's better to do what you suggested originally and convert it into a uncompressed AVI? Wouldn't it be better just to import the original AVI inside the MKV or is there something in Premiere CS3 that reads and then renders losless AVI in higher quality?

No, it won't support MKV files as Matroska is not an industry standard. It's mostly just used for fansub whoring.
You might be able to make an AviSynth script that calls the .mkv file and then import that .avs file via the AviSynth plugin for Premiere. That is assuming that the plugin works in CS3; I don't actually know if it does or not.

That's one thing I've never learned yet and I don;t know all this AviSynth stuff. I don't get what it is or how it works or what it does even though I have it and see it everywhere. If what you say were possible. I'm sure somebody would have made that already and posted it somewhere.LivingFlame wrote:No, it won't support MKV files as Matroska is not an industry standard.
