Exporting video in widescreen

Post by Toshi.des » Fri Oct 12, 2007 12:50 pm

When I export my video from premiere it has a set height and width when I choose widscreen, 720 by 480. And while my video fits this that I'm using when I export my video it has to black bars at the top and bottom making it fit a 4:3 ration not a widescreen one.

Is there something else I'm suppose to tell it to do when exporting?

Also is there a way when you setup a new document to change the size of the project? For example when I go to custom settings in presets it doesn't allow me to select the height or width.

Help appreciated.

If I understand you correctly (and do correct me if I'm out in left field) when you select widescreen, it gives you the option of 720 by 480. For one, 720x480 is NOT widescreen in itself. It's 4:3. The black borders make your footage 4:3, which leaves me to believe that you are messing up your export settings.

When you get the Export Movie Settings dialogue box, under "General" Is the file type set to "Microsoft AVI" or "Microsoft DV AVI?" If its DV AVI, change it to "Microsoft AVI." Now when you "Video" you should be able to change the frame size from there to match your footage.

It is nothing until you define the pixel aspect ratio.

If your pixels are square, it's 3:2.
If your pixels are standard NTSC (0.9), it's 4:3.
If your pixels are NTSC widescreen (1.2?), it's widescreen.

@Toshi.<s>Station</s>des: custom settings <i>should</i> allow you to change the resolution when you set up the project; make sure you're set to use Microsoft AVI and not DV AVI.
