Frame Rate dilemma in Adobe After Effects 7.0 Professional

Post by otbwavelength » Wed Aug 08, 2007 6:08 am

I'm making two AMV's right now; both are using Death Note, and both are using the same clips (I ripped upwards of 300-350 clips).

Now, one of the AMV's is my own personal one, and one is for a MEP.

The MEP requires;

640 x 480 resolution
29.97 FPS

However, my ripped clips are;

640 x 352 resolution
23.976 FPS

Because of this, my question is this;

Is there a way to ADD dummy frames back into the video within AE 7.0 Pro, while still keeping the same "speed" of the clips?

Or would I need to do some roundabout thing like speeding them up to 29.97 FPS within the composition in AE, and then slowing down the clips themselves with Time effects?

Either use an avisynth command: AssumeFPS(29.97)
or right click the footage in after effects and go to interpret footage, and set the framerate there.

I'll try that later today and get back to ya; if possible i'd really like to not have to re-run 300+ clips through Virtual Dub again. ><

Nope, tried it out just now and it super-speeds up the footage.

There's no way to tell AE to "export" it as 29.97 by adding dummy frames to it, at all, so it still runs at 23FPS visually?

I.E. am I basically going to have to slow down all of the clips through time settings AFTER doing the 29.97 FPS or?

There should be, because I know there is in After Effects 6.0 Standard.

On the Render Settings screen, set the "Use this frame rate:" option in the frame rate section and specify the desired frame rate.

Or if you want to do it in AVISynth, the proper command is ChangeFPS() (not AssumeFPS()) if you want to add duplicate frames.

Or, also in AVISynth, if the MEP allows interlaced video, you could also consider the ADTelecine() function that's included in the AMVapp.

In after effects, just make your composition 29.97fps.

Digital is digital, HD is HD and frame rate is frame rate. I can use Adobe After Effects and export as HuffYUV with no problem, same settings and
Pitter Modano. U are welcom!
