and that's my point. Also, at a base level, MAYBE that's arguable, but when you look at the plugins you can put into AE compared to vegas, AE just blows vegas out of the water.

haha i do that too, but being able to simulate a film fade, or a realistic quake, or a cloud shine effect, or even a scene appearing as it's filled up with water, is a pain to make from scratch, so it saves time to use plugins

and if making effects in Vegas is like riding a bike then they should definitely go for it :P

i only watched the first few seconds of that video linked and I know I could make most of those effects (in the first 40 seconds) with just drop in effects (well maybe you would have to tweak them a little bit to make them look that way, but still..) and the masking tool...

not to mention i wasn't really directing the question to you but more to the original poster who wrote this:
[ Excluding Sony Vegas ]
so i ask THEN again: why not Vegas?
i had vegas before and it was pretty smooth, but then i tried to upgrade to vegas pro 8 [ didnt work out well ] and now i cant get vegas 7 back because of some ilegal issues  , btw thx guys so il be fine with premiere pro and photoshop cs2 right? il try my best getting AE thx for the help

But Premiere is for me easier to work with than After Effects.
I us them both : Premiere for the clipping and AE for the effects...
That should be the way to do it for me...
