A better way to deinterlace?
So I just put up my first vid, and was told by a couple QuickCommenters that I needed to follow one of the tech guides and work on the quality, including deinterlacing.
The problem? I had already followed one of the guides. Because I was working with DVD footage, I used VicBond007's guide, and followed the steps given in it to clean up the footage some, including work on the interlacing issue.
Now, unless there's some post-production work that can be done on that vid, it's a bit late to work with the clips in it. Due to disk space concerns, I had to delete the clips and everything that I'd used in the vid. But if anyone can suggest a better way to help with the quality issues on future vids, it would be a big help.
Thanks, guys!

I would imagine that the QCs were referring to this guide. It's really really in depth, but the information is of the highest quality.

... yea ...

Most likely. I found that one when I was browsing the other tech guides on AMV when my vid was finished. I gravitated toward Vic's because I was using DVD, and it was a guide for DVD footage. Meh, I'll rely on that guide for my next vid project, especially since I have a better grasp on what I'm doing now.

is it possible you interlaced when you exported from your program?
what program are you using and how are you exporting?
also project settings can effect interlacing, be sure to have everything in your program set to progressive or you will have some annoying interlacing issues later on

I used the AMVapp program bundle to make the vid. I used DVDDecrypter to rip the footage from the DVDs, used DGIndex to prepare it for VDM, and I used VirtualDubMod to deinterlace the footage (following the instructions provided in Vic's guide). All of the footage was saved as .avi with DivX compression (again, all covered in the guide).
I do know the footage I was using wasn't quite sparkling clear quality to start with. (If you know about the ADV releases of the first two Sailor Moon seasons, you know about the quality issues with the video.) Could that have also been a factor?

what EDITING SOFTWARE did you use?
as in the part where you put the video together?
I'm not talking about the ripping process, I'm talking about the actual editing part of the process...

Hope it isn't a silly question, but are the Export settings the same as the "Save" settings?
I was just looking at the files I saved for the completed vid, and I remembered that one (the one that's up here) was set to save as a .wmv ("Best to play on this computer" or something to that effect). The other (much larger) file was saved as a .avi file. Might that have an effect on the final video quality?
