Virtual Dub Compression Issue

I am having a very strange issue, no matter what I do in Virtual Dub my videos don't compress. I'm using AvsPmod to import into Virtual Dub. Code is as follows...

FFVideoSource("E:\mypath\name.mkv")
LSFmod(strength=120)

It imports to Virtual Dub just fine, I select "Fast Recompress" and then from the compression menu "Ut Video 420". Now when I save the clips in 20 second increments and those files are around 250+ mb each. I messed around with it and no matter what I choose in the compression menu, even uncompressed, its still around 250 mb. This makes me believe that somehow my videos aren't getting compressed.

Does anyone have a solution? I feel like I missed a check somewhere or need to turn on a setting or something. I know its not a problem with the source file, its around 500mb 24 minute episode. I even went back and tried to do some episodes that I successfully compressed with Lagarith awhile back and still no luck.

Any help would be appreciated!

If the video HD those sizes sound possible.

it really depends on frame size, frame rate, and level of detail.

I have some mid-detail 848x480 footage at around 5MB/s, some low detail footage 960x720 at around 6MB/s, and some higher-detail 1280x720 at around 7MB/s.

250 Mb for a 20 second clip, are you sure?

Provide frame rate, frame size, and correct units on your question and we can do the math out.

Uncompressed 720P24 is 11MB/s
Uncompressed 720P30 is 13.75MB/s
Uncompressed 1080p24 is 22MB/s
Uncompressed 1080p30 is 27.5MB/s

If your seeing sizes like that, then yes, you are failing to compress at all. Your rough numbers (assuming you mean 250MB not Mb) suggest 12.5MB/s - if that's 1080p video, you are compressing.

I apologize for the late response, something immediate came up.

Yes your assumptions of my notation are correct, I apologize for that as well. And my video is 1080p, so that's good news. I have previously gotten 1080p video sizes considerably smaller without losing much quality, so that's what is probably throwing me off.

Anywho, thank you for your help! You've been very helpful even though I have not been the best at describing my issue.

If you know the colourspace and exact resolution and number of frames, calculating the size is easy. Sounds about right though.
