Getting A Ut Video encoded footage to play

i recently install the ut video codec and it works well, the problem is my media players refused to play it. i have vlc, the km player and media player classic. they all give me the same error when i try to play the file. media player error the km player error vlc error.

I tried to installed the ut codec in the km and the mpc but to no avail, vlc is self-contained so that's out of the question. i am really new to editing just started yesterday, so if you could make my experience with codecs less of a hassle i would be very happy.

Well, the real question is, does it work in your NLE and does it load in avisynth? That's really as far as you should care, because utvideo is not meant to be a playback codec, so that's not what you should use it for anyway. Yes, it might be annoying to not be able to check the lossless in a player in some occasions, but it's nothing more than a nuisance since it's not what it's thought out to be used for anyway.
In any case, kmplayer is pretty bad and I wouldn't be surprised if uninstalling it and reinstalling utvideo just to be safe or doing something else along those lines would make the video work in MPC-HC. >_>

Thank you for your reply and yes it works well without any problem. unfortunately my knowledge with avisynth is very very limited(no idea how it works) i have been reading the guides around the org, so it has been a big help but it will take a while for me to fully grasp it. but the footage i've encoded with ut video can be edited so thats the good news. taken your advice and uninstalled the Km player. once again thanks Mirkosp.

I think its a problem with the latest 8.5.1 installer. I just updated today and the codec stopped working. Nothing shows up in VirtualDub. But going back to 8.5.0 everything works just fine.

I guess it's best i hold back on updating to 8.5.1 till that issue is resolved, thanks for the heads-up NeoQuixotic.

Another Problem Came up During the rendering of my amv, Vegas has no problem allowing me to edit the encoded video footage but when i render it and play it the footage that was encoded with ut video does not show up in the amv, the screen just goes black. if you need to see this by all means let me know and i'll upload it to sendspace and send you the link. your assistance is appreciated.

Mmmmh... this is really odd. The codec works within virtualdub, right? Otherwise it wouldn't have allowed you to encode the footage with it... what's your OS and version of Vegas? In case you are on a 64bit OS, you'll need to install both the 32bit and 64bit versions of the codec, not just the 64bit one.

Ahh, the problem has been resolved, apparently vegas was just acting up, after i close it and restarted it everything started working as new again. i am on 7-32bbit and vegas 9. Thanks for your concern mirkosp.

I've never been able to render to UTVideo from Vegas without massive errors. Try editing with UTVideo and rendering to Lagarith.

Not sure why it wouldn't work in MPC-HC but you can always register it manually, until recently-ish that was the ONLY way to install it. KMP is a steaming pile of garbage that is also self contained and violates several licenses, you should NEVER use it for ANYTHING. VLC obviously won't play it as it isn't a lavc supported codec. VLC also stinks for playback in general and you should only use it for streaming.
