There is one notable issue related to 23.976 footage still to be addressed even in cs4: trying to directly load a lossless avi with more than - say - a couple minutes worth or footage, especially if HD, will end up in one or both of the following to happen:
- Footage loads as 23.98 and not 23.976. This is annoying as trying to force premiere to assume it as 23.976 doesn't apparently work (doesn't in my beta, not sure if it does in finals, although I think I was told it still doesn't)
- Footage loads as 23.976 but at a certain point it just becomes the same frame repeated to no end. You can work only with, like, the first one or two minutes of footage.
However, loading the lossless through avisource and importing the avs file directly in premiere will make the footage load as 23.976 just fine and be full length. Another solution, to the second issue, could be making really short clips, but nothing assures you that at some point in time premiere ends up thinking it's 23.98 and not 23.976 anyway.
That said, the timeline is actually 23.976, as is the output. Input is the only thing that gets the 23.98 and/or the odd cutoff, and even then only with avi directly. It's prolly related to the weight of the files, as that would also explain why avs files work smoothly.
