Re: 16:9 Footage to 4:3 Footage (without cutting away footag
As I have access to the original footage masters, I can confirm that yes, it's an upscale, and also not widescreen. Most encoders went for 960x720 on the BD rips but it was animated at 720x540 iirc, and probably textured at 480p. Also I believe the series BD had an English audio track but too lazy to confirm.

It came from a blueray - it was most likely 1920x1080 pillarboxed. They're having a meta-discussion on the fact that the animation studio did an upscale on what was drawn from the animators to make that blueray in the first place. To be completely honest, such discussions aren't much more relevant than pointing out the animations were also probably done at 12fps, and therefore implying that you shouldn't make your AMV more than 12fps either.Cannonaire wrote:What resolution was your footage originally? Was it 720x480, or was it higher res? If it was originally 720x480, there was no need to upscale.EkaCoralian wrote:Eureka seveN got released on BD in Japan, but just not in English yet (to my knowledge).
Anyways the 960x720 thing seems to have worked (I think). I didn't even know the Media tab existed to be perfectly honest. =s
Does this look about right?

Except things like pans and effects are generally done at 23.976 regardless and animation itself is less about framerate and more about smoothness. You find whole seconds with a static frame and in the more action intense parts you'd see a complete 24fps sequence. Also, while editing, you'll be doing your own shakes/pans/etc, so those will still benefit from 23.976.BasharOfTheAges wrote:To be completely honest, such discussions aren't much more relevant than pointing out the animations were also probably done at 12fps, and therefore implying that you shouldn't make your AMV more than 12fps either.
Detail however... unless you feel like drawing each frame again, there's no way to fix the lack of it. You'll be doing your own effects at a higher res, and that will just make the source and effects contrast: footage will be blurry, your effects quite sharp and detailed, and such a contrast will be just odd and jarring. Unless you go all the way and blur out the effects to match the footage, but at that point you could just edit at the actual res, after all.

I w'd, has BasharOfTheAges never seen a Japanese BD? Pillarboxing, really. It's 1440x1080i.

Only Japanese BRDs I have are 16:9. No idea how they do the 4:3 stuff. The m2ts's DVDFab gives me are full 1080p though. *shrug*

IIRC CCS was actually pillarboxed anyway, so it depends... but well, thread has derailed enough by now, I'd say. Let's quit with the ot.
