AMV Newbie With Virtual Dub Problem...Help!

Post by geekapocalypsa » Thu Apr 21, 2011 11:08 pm

Okay, I'm completely new to the world of AMV making. I've been looking at http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/avtech31/ to learn a bit more about it. However, there is nothing that I can see on there about VirtualDub.

I've downloaded both VirtualDub and DVDFab. I've ripped the episodes I want off of my DVD and converted them to .avi. But when I try to open the file in VirtualDub to convert the aspect ratio from 4:3 to 16:9 it gives me an error message that says:

"VirtualDub Error
Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'XVID' (unknown)
VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable."

Am I doing something wrong? If not, do I just need to download a compatible codec to decompress the video? And if so, do you have any suggestions of a place to download the codec?

Any help/suggestions are very much appreciated!

Thank you! :)

Oops, guess I didn't look at the guide hard enough... Didn't see the guide for AMVApp on there.

Got virtualdub working fine now.

Sorry about that...-_-;
