VFAPI: "File Invalid" Error When Using LimitedShar

Post by Melichan923 » Sat Jul 26, 2008 4:28 pm

I usually use Lagarith clips and import them into Vegas, but I thought I'd try out VFAPI today because of the space required to make the footage Lagarith. (Making small 5 second clips is time consuming especially since I am always changing my mind about the clips I should use. I could just convert the whole episodes like I used to do but then of course so much space is required since I don't ever delete the files: I don't delete them so that way I can re-edit/fix a project anytime I need.)

However, certain filters are causing errors when I try to import the .avs file into VFAPI. The error says "File is invalid." After much research and experimenting I came to the conclusion that the filter LimitedSharpenFaster is causing the error. LimitedSharpenFaster is, so far the only sharpening filter I prefer to use since the results and speed are much better than any other sharpening filters I've tried. I can convert and import into Vegas just fine without LimitedSharpenFaster, but it's clear that my footage definitely needs some sharpening.

Is there a solution to make .avs files with LimitedSharpenFaster import into VFAPI? Thank you. :)

have you tried any of the other versions? It's the only sugguestion I can think of cause It doesn't make sense that it works for a program like vdub (or a video player) but not with vfapi. but then again i have no experience with vfapi =/...

keep in mind the different versions of removegrain and masktools needed, they are shown under it.
"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson

Thank you for your reply!

Hm... I know, it doesn't seem to make much sense, does it? I believe I have the newest version right now. I'll try out the one you suggested sometime next week when I'm at home and can experiment. I'm always a little reluctant to try out Beta versions, but hopefully it will work. :D

In that case, I'd like to recommend <b>PSharpen</b> (script), available here:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p ... post683344

Similarly to LimitedSharpen, PSharpen avoids overshoot by design and includes supersampling to reduce aliasing; but unlike LimitedSharpen, it's a two-point sharpener (read the thread for the full discussion of its design philosophy), and it's noticeably faster. ^_^

You might even have luck with TRBarry's <b>UnFilter</b> (plugin), which as far as I've seen, is not as tweakable as LimitedSharpen and PSharpen but gives similar results and is BLAZINGLY FAST. Available here:

I'M WORKING ON IT!
