Freddy Mercury Tribute - Official Thread
This is the sign up and announcement thread for the "Freddy Mercury Tribute MEP" (I'm open for better proposals). If you didn't read the interest gauge thread: This year it's 15 years ago that he died and 60 years that he was born.
Generell guidelines:
This project should be an hommage to Freddy Mercury and his work. I don't select the tracks for you, you can make your own choice. The music to be used has to fullfill at least one of these criteria:
- Freddy sings the lead vocals.
- He had written the text.
- He has composed the music.
So it's not only limitted to music from Queen. You can use his solo albums, his duetts and, as long as the 2nd or 3rd criteria is met, even cover versions. I'd appreciate if the number of cover versions is kept low. And of course you can use songs he has written for someone else, if that's the case.
Each segment should have a length of 1 minute +/- 30 seconds. Every editing of the song that is necessary to meet this requirement is allowed. Don't do additional editing of the music. A song can only be used one time for this project.*) A cover version is counted like the original. After you have decided which part(s) of the song you use, send me a compressed preview version of the audio.
<strike>The visual content of the segment has to fit the site rules for local upload.</strike> In addition, make it tastefull. One segment must consist of a single anime. Every anime can only be used twice.*) If an anime exists in different forms (e.g. series and movie) or has spinoffs, prequels/sequels etc., it's counted as one.
Take care that your segment can be put seemless together with the other. The whole project should be a medley. Don't add any credits, I'll take care for this.
An editor can make 2 segments. Mark your favourite segment. Maybe if the project becomes too long I'll drop segments from the editors who made two.
Technical guidelines:
Video
Resolution 720x480
29.97 fps deinterlaced
Anamorphic widescreen (16:9). If your footage is 4:3, use pan and scan to make it 16:9. Don't letterbox it.
No subtitles, no watermarks.
I'm expecting good visual quality. Be prepared that I may request samples to check this.
Codecs for final version: XviD with quantizer 1, DV, MJPEG at 100% quality, HuffYUV, Lagarith. The prefered container is AVI, but you can use MOV too. Spoken in terms of bandwith, download times and HD-space I'd prefer the XviD encode, but avoid double lossy compresssion. So if your NLE only supports DV from the allowed codecs, provide this and don't convert it to XviD.
Beta version: Use a codec with good compression: XViD/DivX, h.264 or even WMV9. If you want to use a different codec, PM me.
Audio
Final: uncompressed, Stereo, 16 bit, 44,1kHz
Beta: compress it mp3 or WMA.
Deadlines/Submission
Beta Version
16th October 2006 at 00:00 GMT.(This means the 13th August is the last date for uploading and PMing me) Upload it to YouSendIt.com or rapidshare.de and PM me the link. Date and time of the PM are used to judge if it's right in time.
Final version
11th November 2006 at 00:00 GMT.(This means the 1st September is the last date for uploading and PMing me) If your file is less than 100MB, upload it to YouSendIt.com or rapidshare.de and PM me the link. If it's larger than 100MB, make a split archive using RAR. Date and time of the PM are used to judge if it's right in time.
The deadlines are set that the project can be released to his <strike>birthday</strike> day of death.
How to join:
Simply reply to this thread with song and anime you want to use. I'll confirm it and put it up to the list. You can join as long as the beta deadline isn't reached. Ensure that you can make a beta version right in time. If you have an idea but aren't sure in the moment if you can make it (for what reason ever), you have the possibility to take an option. This preserves anime and song for you for one week, which should give you enough time to clarify the things. If you don't join within this week, song and anime are free for others again.
Confirmed participants:
Keeper of Hellfire - Queen "Flash's Theme" - Queen Millenia
Hitori - Queen "Bohemian Rhapsody" - Cromartie High School
Willen - Queen "Body Language" - Golden Boy
Bulmafox - Queen "Who Wants To Live Forever" - Noir
Optional participants:
Miscellaneous:
Let me know from time to time how the status of your track is. If you join but kow that you'll start to work on your track later (for e.g. you want to finish some exams first), please tell me at the beginning. This is my first MEP at all, so any advice from editors with experience in MEP is welcome. If I forgot something or something is unclear (possibly due to bad English), don't hesitate to tell me. As said in the first sentence, this thread isn't only for joining but also for announcements. Make sure to check it regularly.
*)May be exceeded if number of tracks is large enough to keep diversity.

Love Hina with "Crazy Little Thing Called Love"
I'm only gonna have access to my AMV equipment for another three weeks so I MIGHT NOT be done in time, but I'll try my best

Inform me right in time if that's the case. If there is a chance that you can finish your segment right in time before the release date maybe I can make an exception. Though I don't like the idea of exceptions, because it's unfair to the others.MCHeadcase wrote:... so I MIGHT NOT be done in time, ...
I count you both in.

Thing is your deadline is in August and I'll know whether or not I'll be able to finish it in a month ... see, I got about a month left of school and I make my AMVs on the computers up there ... I'm not gonna try and rush it but if I can't get it done before then, I'll let you knowKeeper of Hellfire wrote:Inform me right in time if that's the case.
