Oh yea, I haven't mentioned this, but I sent out my finalized monologues + last image yesterday by email.

Hopefully they came in alright, etc.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Okay:

I think the Bittorrent distribution idea will fly. I've found what looks like usable tracking software and can use my server as a permanent "seed" to keep things flowing. That's the only method I can think of for reliably distributing something this large to a large number of people in a short span of time (as there'll probably be a big jump in downloads right after it's released before things taper off to a long-term crawl) without it getting too slow or killing our upload bandwidth limits. As far as I know, mine is limited bandwidth, but not limited transfer quantity, so I can spit forth as many bits will fly off of my server - it's all just a matter of speed.

I haven't heard the post-noise removal monologues yet. Sorry. I was in bed with some sort of really nasty but short lived head-flu for most of Thursday and Friday, and have spent the majority of the weekend scrambling to catch up on my assignments. I just checked my e-mail this morning, and I also have Otohiko's last picture. I haven't made any alternative recordings because, once again, head flu - therefore voice closely resembling Rudoph the Red-Nosed Reindeer with that thing stuck over his nose to keep it from shining (all I could come up with for a description). I think I still will try a second take, even if the first is pretty clean now, to see if some (or a lot of) additional volume and inflection help.

I did look at speech synthesis, but have found that that's only an option if we want to pass the narratives off as a very clean recording of Steven Hawking. It seems that's the standard voice given to a lot of these things.

I do have a vocorder among my guitar equipment, if I want to go really crazy, but that'd just make me sound like the the voice from the first section of "The Wasteland", or perhaps the robot voice in "Mr. Roboto". It unfortunately does not, as it turns out, make a good substitute for a talk-box when attempting to get the Peter Frampton "Do You Feel Like I Do" sound going on.

I believe I have the "set" images up for the fullscreen version. I'll check this afternoon to see if I've forgotten to include them on the web folder, but I'm pretty sure they're there. The narratives will pretty much just look like those images, with the "screen" changing from time to time as indicated by the scripts, ending with a fade from the last screen to black, then a fade from black to the bumper, then back to black, then the video.

The credits images do need a little work. Puctuation looks funny in the font used there and in the Bumpers, so that's why the "aka". The real problem is the foreground/background contrast, leading me to believe that a different set of images is called for. I have one I'm working on now featuring flowers processed into a deep blue hue on a black background to match the look of the bumpers, using blue text. I haven't fully decided on the composition yet, though, so I've still got a bit of work left on that one.

I'm also questioning whether I should re-do the sets to go with the theme, but will have to weigh in the time that will take and the availability of more fitting images and the possibility of me just producing my own. I have access to one of the school's digital art labs now, and I'll probably find out this afternoon whether it has any software I'm familiar with, or can quickly learn how to use, to produce a better-matched narrative set. The current one seems too "white" for the rest of the video.

I'm guessing we aren't going to get to hear a female version of the narrative audio? It's too bad, but I guess I am going to have to stick with my own voice for the speaker after all.

Rose: How easy is it to set up a server as a seed? IF you can help me out I can do that too It will help speed up the first wave of downloads alot. I'm gonna go research what i can now.

all bit torrent clients that I know of can seed, its just a simple setting in the client itself you enable, and just leave it on. I'll probably help seed it for the first 2 weeks or so of ditribution.

Rose just gotta set up a tracker.

I particularly like to use Bittornado found here: http://bittornado.com/
information on how to be a seeder and using the super-seed function can be found on the website also.

No I know how to seed with my computer but from what I understand there should be a way for me to upload the video to my websites server and use it as a seed also which would give us a constant seed going at 100kbs (maybe more depending if it stains the sever i don't want to get kick from my host). With a constant seed at 100 the inital seeding would be very quick. Plus I will be seeding from my home computer with a 70kbs upload rate. So 170kbs just from be then whatever everyone else has. oh and rose when you make the torrent can you put a secondary tracker on there as a back up?

Baka: Bittornado is probably the bet client for seeding but for downloading go with bitcomet basicly b/c it only has one open window and when you resume large downloads it doesn't need to check the file which can save you 20mins on some files.

oh webbased seeding, I have not looked into that yet. A good idea though if you can figure it out. I'm sure there are writups on it on the web, time to google ;p

I might try bitcomet, but I'm the kind of person that likes simple and small programs over the bigger more complicated (to make things easier) type programs. at least for these kinds of things. If you said it was more efficient at downloading, then I'd probably be more enthusiastic ;p

Songbird:

I don't know what you did to all those rocket scientists, but you certainly are apologizing to them with enthusiasm. :)

Yup, I have the screencaps from the e-mail.

There still is a chance for you to try out the narratives. I'm looking at revamping the set, anyhow, so I can also adjust the imagery for a female narrative voice if necessary.
