Okay:
I think the Bittorrent distribution idea will fly. I've found what looks like usable tracking software and can use my server as a permanent "seed" to keep things flowing. That's the only method I can think of for reliably distributing something this large to a large number of people in a short span of time (as there'll probably be a big jump in downloads right after it's released before things taper off to a long-term crawl) without it getting too slow or killing our upload bandwidth limits. As far as I know, mine is limited bandwidth, but not limited transfer quantity, so I can spit forth as many bits will fly off of my server - it's all just a matter of speed.
I haven't heard the post-noise removal monologues yet. Sorry. I was in bed with some sort of really nasty but short lived head-flu for most of Thursday and Friday, and have spent the majority of the weekend scrambling to catch up on my assignments. I just checked my e-mail this morning, and I also have Otohiko's last picture. I haven't made any alternative recordings because, once again, head flu - therefore voice closely resembling Rudoph the Red-Nosed Reindeer with that thing stuck over his nose to keep it from shining (all I could come up with for a description). I think I still will try a second take, even if the first is pretty clean now, to see if some (or a lot of) additional volume and inflection help.
I did look at speech synthesis, but have found that that's only an option if we want to pass the narratives off as a very clean recording of Steven Hawking. It seems that's the standard voice given to a lot of these things.
I do have a vocorder among my guitar equipment, if I want to go really crazy, but that'd just make me sound like the the voice from the first section of "The Wasteland", or perhaps the robot voice in "Mr. Roboto". It unfortunately does not, as it turns out, make a good substitute for a talk-box when attempting to get the Peter Frampton "Do You Feel Like I Do" sound going on.
I believe I have the "set" images up for the fullscreen version. I'll check this afternoon to see if I've forgotten to include them on the web folder, but I'm pretty sure they're there. The narratives will pretty much just look like those images, with the "screen" changing from time to time as indicated by the scripts, ending with a fade from the last screen to black, then a fade from black to the bumper, then back to black, then the video.
The credits images do need a little work. Puctuation looks funny in the font used there and in the Bumpers, so that's why the "aka". The real problem is the foreground/background contrast, leading me to believe that a different set of images is called for. I have one I'm working on now featuring flowers processed into a deep blue hue on a black background to match the look of the bumpers, using blue text. I haven't fully decided on the composition yet, though, so I've still got a bit of work left on that one.
I'm also questioning whether I should re-do the sets to go with the theme, but will have to weigh in the time that will take and the availability of more fitting images and the possibility of me just producing my own. I have access to one of the school's digital art labs now, and I'll probably find out this afternoon whether it has any software I'm familiar with, or can quickly learn how to use, to produce a better-matched narrative set. The current one seems too "white" for the rest of the video.
I'm guessing we aren't going to get to hear a female version of the narrative audio? It's too bad, but I guess I am going to have to stick with my own voice for the speaker after all.
may seeds of dreams fall from my hands -
and by yours be pressed into the ground.
