I don't really care what color space. HuffYUV (or HuffRGB hiding under the name HuffYUV - or for that matter, it's really a HuffBGR if you follow the Wintel byte order for a color-defining integer) of any standard variety is fine, as I'm converting them to PNGs before I compile them anyhow (the tools I'm working with work best when working with PNG streams).

The resolution of the images for the TV screen of the "set" isn't terribly important either. I'd suggest just using one's the size of your video to make the screencap process easier for you and the resizing process a bit more consistent for me. The part that is important is that the aspect is the same as your video (either 4:3 or 16:9), and that the picture doesn't rely on detail that'll be lost on the viewer when it is dislpayed on a relatively small portion of the screen (think of the thumbnails you see in the corners of the screen when you're watching the news, if you don't want to go look at the set images themselves to see how big the screens are). The 4:3 screen is a bit smaller than the 16:9 screen - but that's more a function of the sort of images I had for each TV set, one old-school set in a big wooden cabinet, and one new-school flat panel that would look awfully silly shown at the same size as the 4:3 screen, especially where the change in screen dimension is actually an accurate reflection of the average increase in the size of television sets over the last fourty-five years.

Hmm... When do you plan on having all finished videos?

I'm afraid I don't have much time or the footage/ideas to complete mine... :?

Ooshna - yup, I've got the stills. Now I can't wait to see the huffman copy of your video - the visual quality of the stills was well above that of the video, so I'm assuming the lossless encoding will look just as good. It's a bit of a relief to see that good editing wasn't tarnished by bad encoding (encoding being the convoluted black art it is, it's hard to get a good encoding into reasonable space, especially with recompressed or fast-moving footage).

Maverick - considering the rate at which stuff is coming in, and the slightly slower rate at which I'm processing it now, you probably have 2-3 weeks before I've got everything set for the compilation. I might be ready before then, but if you're right on the line of finishing I'll hold back a little bit to give you a chance to complete the video and get it in.

When I find my microphone (or give up on looking for it and buy another one) I'll start recording the narratives I have and put those up so you can get an idea of the sound and make any suggestions you may have for my timing/voicing to tune each one to match as closely as possible the effect you were going for with the script.

---

QUICK SURVEY:

Should I use the big, clear "speaker voice" I'd use for a presentation, or a more casual, conversational form of enunciation? It'd probably seem more "professional" to go with the James Earl Jones / Patrick Stewart style, but I don't know if that would come off as "pretentious" instead. Another possibility, of course, would be to use a female voice, but that'd require getting someone else to sign up for some or all of the narratives - so that decision would really fall in the hands of Helen (Jasper-Isis) and Songbird (whose name I don't know).

Or should I just try a few takes for each one and put them all up before selecting one?

---

My lossless animation-oriented codec is coming along, for some off-topic news, and might be ready for distribution by the end of the summer - so look forward to significatly smaller lossless files.

The media studio appiliction for which the codec is being developed will probably take longer, as there's a lot of architecture for me to figure out and implement, but it looks like I'll be able to pull it off as a multi-platform application with a modular design that will allow for easy extension of functionality after the first release as I figure out more and more of how popular features are implemented and what features I should add that I haven't seen anywhere else (such fully parametric effects control curves and user-exposed convolution martrices and colorspace maps that'll let anyone with a decent sense for image-processing quicky generate unique filters, not to mention the built-in audio synthesis module (which is actually the first part of this I started thinking about, before I even took an interest in animation)). The first release will be a minimal one, essentially supporting only cut-and-paste editing, but the addition of the other modules will gradually make the whole thing a lot more versatile.

umm well about the huffman i kinda don't have it. I had to reinstall windows and when I did my entire video in premiere go offsync and parts were there that shouldn't be. Plus everytime I export huffy its really dark.

Awww... Damn!

Windows sucks, BTW.

Don't know what's up with the dark HuffYUV, probably a Premere thing.

And the lesson learned by three people (you, Otohiko, and I) on this project is:

Back up the lossless copy. Murphey's law enforcement is, at this very moment, swinging at our hard drives with large, black clubs.

Yep. I heard, however, that a good way to do it is do a full-CD copy in MPEG-2. Not quite lossless, but close.

Well, the Wasteland was kind of just my not thinking ahead and getting rid of a file taking up a lot of space... but Ararat was just me accidentally pushing the 'delete' button with the wrong video file selected [stupid, stupid, stupid], and then confirming a permanent deletion... [never let those dialogs skip by like that]

But in any case, in the next few weeks, uploading it would probably have taken a couple of days and cost me extra money for exceeding the bandwith limit (I'm capped at 1GB a month). That should be fixed in a month or so, hopefully...

***

Um, anyway, is the FTP down again, or am I gonna have to look into what's wrong with my firewall again? I can also just provide links to the images if needed...
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

I am going to be gone for the next ten days, but I finally finished the video and submited it to AWA (which was a nightmare, i was out of town unexpectedly and had to talk my brother through the compression and uploading on the phone with only a few hours to go )

I'll be uploading the huffy now if I can but the images will have to wait till I get back it seems.

I have a question about the images: How can i change the aspect ratio in photoshop? Some of my images i can't find a viable substitute for so i guess i'll have to resize them.

Wahooo I'm back from Otakon. The AMV contest was pretty cool, and I saw lots of good videos on the big screen. Good job to Bakadeshi with Angel's Redemption. The Saturday crowd loved it! :D

Just go to Image --> Image Size... and enter a new resolution.

Hmm... Anubisx00, did you get my PM reply?
