I can sum up everything that's happened in this thread into one convenient phrase...
how does I made MEP?
and btw...sky is right
http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/540/01/
yes, it doesn't specifically say that "A helicopter" is correct, but notice that it says the usage depends on the first sound in the word (basically, which one doesn't sound akward to pronounce)
"a user" is correct because the first sound sounds like a consonant
"an hour" is correct because the first sound is "ah" (more or less)
following this pattern, "a helicopter" is correct (just try saying "an helicopter" or "a owl"...it doesn't sound right)
but I think everybody can agree on one thing...and that's that English is stupid

Holy shit. NO one of my teacher ever mentioned it. Maybe they thought that we can´t handle with it oO THXCrackTheSky wrote:"H" is occasionally an exception when you don't pronounce it, with words like "hour" or "honest" (who says "a honest opinion"?). "A helicopter" is correct though, you're right Bauzi.meleechampion wrote:"an" is used before words that start with a vowel. "h" is not a vowel. "a helicopter" is correct.
