More questions for Rose4Emily:
Should we submit creditless versions of our videos? Or if we are to include bumpers... should we put them before or after the actual amv? What should be on the bumpers? If you look at my video, I have two bumpers at the end - one for the title of the amv, and the other for my studio name. If we're only using one bumper then I would like to keep the one for my title. This is the way I imagine it being done for each segment:
1] The title bumper (made by the creators individually) fades in and holds for about 3 seconds. During this time, the monologue audio begins. The bumper then fades out to black while the monologue continues.
2] The video for the monologue fades in. (Can you explain how you're doing this part? I still don't quite understand what's happening here. Is there gonna be a TV here that shows clips of our videos as we talk? As my amv is pretty short, it'll be difficult to show clips without spoiling the amv.) Anyway, video fades out at the end of the audio monologue.
3] The actual amv begins.
The reason why I think monologue audio should start during the bumper is because I've seen this used before in a PBS documentary, and it's very effective in getting people to listen carefully. Plus it also cuts down on the length of the intros.
Anyway, let us know what you think.

I would prefer if the "bumpers" were separated from the video, to make it easier for me to:
a: know what is and isn't supposed to be part of the main video
b: edit them into the final project with the monologue audio, without having to worry about throwing off the audio for the main video in the editing process.
For any editors that don't turn in bumpers, I will make an image with the name of the video and editor that will be faded in and out as Jasper-Isis suggested for the bumpers. For any editors that do make bumpers, they should contain the name of the video and the editor, studio names in text are fine, but anything that requires sound or is just a stock studio signature should be left out - these should pertain specifically to the video at hand.
The song/anime credits will be included at the end of each segment, with the first set of credits being shown as part of the "intermission" text as a sort of "here's a recap of what you've just seen" bit. I'll put that together to show everyone and gather thoughts as soon as the final order for the videos is determined. The second set of credits (along with a rehash of the first set of credits) will be shown at the end of the second segment, also as static text (actually, i'll have both sets on a short fade-in / fade-out). Behind the text for both the intermission and end credits will be a set of images that I'm putting together to add visual interest to the whole thing. The reason for doing the credits for the 3:4 videos twice is that they should show up at the end, as it is all one project that is being spilt essentially for technical practicalities concerning download time and the aspect ratios, but should also be included in the same file as they are shown in, in case someone fails to notice them in the other file and takes offence to our appearent lack of credit-giving. That, and the intermission has to have something in it to keep people watching.
What I think should be done with for the "tv" in the narrative sections is as follows:
- All editors submit a set of images (about 6-12 should be good) that are from or related to their video and the text for the narrative, marking where they go on the narrative (or, if you aren't writing your own narrative, just send me a bunch of images and I'll do my best to pick some). I'm still working on what I should do with the set, but I think I'll do the final version in Cinepaint, and will find stills much easier to work with than video - and imagine they'll be just as good as bits of background imagery as shrunken-down video clips would be. The bumper part will be included right after the zoom-in to the tv.

I think that the bumper should be placed before the TV segments. That way, the audience would know what video the voice is talking about. So for example:

Fade in; fade out.

Fade in; shows slideshow of clips (I'm assuming); then video on the TV fades to black and the screen zooms in to the TV; AMV begins.
That second image was just a screenshot of PowerDVD that I took and Photoshopped. You probably have a much better image of a "TV" than that.
I'll probably send you six images max for the slideshow, seeing as my vid is so short. I think I'll run them through some filters to make them look like production sketches or something.

I like japser Isis idea there, I was actually thinking the same thing for the presentation of the monologs. I also think all the studio bumpers should be done uniformly so they flow well as a project whole. (have them all styled the same, like they do at conventions) Somewhat like what Jasper has in his/her post with the cursive font, I think would work well for the purposes of this project. Infact, have 1 person do them for all the videos I think is a good idea. Jasper seems like a good candidate for that ;p unless rose4emely already has something planned.

Oh there's more. I'm currently waiting on a DVD I bought off Ebay a few days ago for some more Sango footage *Whines about small anime collection yet again*. I'm hoping it'll come tomorrow. It's driving me crazy having only 8 seconds of missing footage standing between me and the completion of my vid.Bakadeshi [AuN Studios] wrote: songbird21:

I've aimed you my comments already, and you;ve fixed most of them since. but for the record, I like what I see already. Besides what I already said on AIm, the video is well edited, and doesn't need any other changes in my opinion. Is this the end of it or is there more?
Rose4emily- I think you should choose an anime character to "host" the project and lipsynch him/her to the monologues. If you chose a female character I'd be happy to do the voice-overs.

Well I have an almost complete version of Oratorio of ghibli that i would like to upload, but the ftp is down.
its pretty much finished, just some cleaning up to do on some of the shots.. weird skipping like effect going on on some of the laputa and kiki scenes. all the Cat returns scenes came out beutiful though. I think its something to do with the age of the DVD footage.

Yup - like the Jasper-Isis bumper title format. If she wants to do all the bumpers that'd be great, especially where it seems here font collection is quite a bit prettier than mine. Also like the 'click' idea for the slide-show pictures - am now adjusting scene concept to include one of those palm-held button on a cable thingies.
The reason for putting the bumper directly before the video, and after the speach, is that I will try to work a lead-out from the preceding video into the speach before the lead-in to the next one, and putting the creator's and video's name as close as possible to the actual video seems like a good idea for not confusing the viewers.
Aww...and I REALLY want to see the rest of that 'Oratorie of Ghibli' video....
No worries, the FTP will return in a couple days. It's down now for my father's WebSphere testing (which takes precendence over the 'good' connection here), but will be back and, in about two weeks, should be replaced by a dedicated machine providing 24-hour, 7-day service. If I have to I'll extend the deadline to make up for the disruption because I know it's really throwing a damper on all this and am not terribly happy about it myself. In the mean time I notice that most of you are releasing your videos as you finish them, so I think the priorities of this project should allow for a little delay if needed to maintain the intended level of quality.
As to using an anime character as the host: I really wanted to, but don't think I'm going to have enough time to properly lip-synch that much footage (I'm on hold with all of my other AMV ideas right now, along with a lot of other things thanks to work and helping out with the construction and landscaping going on here and at my Grandmother's house). What I am doing is making sketches of different scene ideas that will still have that narrator feel but eliminate the painstaking lip-synch work. To do this, though, I'd either have to have Gendo Ikari narrate the whole thing (which could be interesting, esp. with the "Instrumentality" title, but I don't know how it'd go over), or make up a new 'narrator' from scratch. What I'm thinking right now is to have the narrator in a big leather chair on the left side of the screen, facing his screen, with the pictures and a bit of smoke coming out from what can be presumed to be a pipe. This will invoke some motion that doesn't have to be matched to every frame. Add the slide-clicker in his right hand, and I think it could be a very workable concept. I have a couple others in mind, though, that are also still in consideration, so I'll be posting the sketches soon on my website to let you all pick one or give your suggestions for something else. Two of the other ideas, BTW, are to do a MST3K type of thing, which seems to be a worse fit the more I think about it, or to use a replica of the "TV" scene from the Matrix (the one with Morpheus and Neo in the white whatever-it-is-you-see-in-all-the-car-commercials watching an old 50's tv). A third idea, born of the MST3K one but more in tune with this, would be to put two sillhouette heads clipped somewhat off the side of the picture, watching the whole thing on their TV, with one asking making comments on the last video and the other getting too excited about the next one to not spill out everything he knows about it. That would require a different feel for the text, but could also be kinda cool. As I say, there will be actual sketches once I do the refined versions of each scene and post them to my site.

An FTP is in demand, so I thought I'd help out.
24.11.55.42 port 21
anonymous login, no pass
There's a WIP folder for uploads (/uploads/WIP). Tell me if anything needs to be rearranged or something.
I've got just over 100 gig, so space isn't an issue. But bear in mind that I'm on Comcast, so you can upload to be at a good rate, but the downloads will be slower.
