I don't think dumping the entire series on my hard drive as .vob files would even be possible in terms of disk space, nevermind any legal issues. Perhaps, though, if Otohiko can pick out the scenes he wants from whatever compressed version he has you can then clip out just those parts? Or maybe only use a few episodes? Considering 26 episodes of Princess Tutu, another ~20-min-per-episode series that I do have on my hard drive (there are no American DVDs for that one - though I could always become fluent in Japanese and import the Region 2 disks from Japan
) as DivX files fills almost 5GiB, I really doubt that holding all those VOBs, even temporarily, would work.
The FTP keeps going up and down right now because I have a lot of end-of-the year projects and have to keep taking my computer offline to use it for other stuff around campus. Don't know as that'll end 'till finals week up through the 20th. Not much I can do about that one.
I think you can upload and download to FTP through the command-line. I know it's possible (because I've done it) in Unix/Linux, shoud definately work in Mach-based OSX, and might work in the NT-kernel varients of Windows.

I wouldn't use divX because of the keyframe issue. The best way IMO would be to have Otohiko make ultra low quality divX/Xvid copies of clips he wanted to use from downloaded then have Bakadeshi make med to high quality huffyuv of just those clips, that would reduce the space required considerably. Or a direct transfer might work if you have the patience.
Anyway, I might be able to help you out with this as well if Wizzywig has the DVD's (I think I remember them having it only on VHS as it's an older series.) But if they have it I can rent them for $1.50 per disk.
About my own video:
Does it play back in full screen for you guys? There should be about one inch black borders. I mention it because someone said the aspect ratio looked off. Some other things also came up that I find interesting:
The "without knowing the story" kind of bothered be though. The video is 1/8th as long as the movie and when you factor in the quickness of the scene changes in my video (compared to the movie, not other AMV's) there's perhaps 1/2 to 3/4 of the show somewhere in the video. Now obviously there isn't audio to explain things, and the ending is very rushed and probably hard to follow, but still.... Aside from some details, the story is all there. The video is for the most part very linier, it's like watching the movie in fast forward. Anything that isn't there probably shouldn't be, after all I don't want to spoil everything, although I've come close. Then I realized that he might imagine that there is more back story than there is. In truth the only thing the movie tells you about the setting is that the four are interstellar garbage collectors, removing debris from trade lanes. I’ve thought about putting in titles, as much as I’ve resisted it so far. Something like:
In the distant future....
A crew of menial spaceworkers respond to an SOS from Sargasso, "the graveyard of space."
Braving the violent magnetic fields they enter a world beyond their wildest dreams....
And a nightmare from which there is no escape.
What do you guys think?

As far as the music fitting the anime it actually is quite different. Especially at the beginning and the end the anime has lots of silence, ambient sounds, or soft operatic music. I really wish I could convey the emotion the ending leaves you with but the song I chose ends so suddenly that it's just not possible. Not that this is a bad thing; I think it's good to create something new.Qyot27 wrote:Without knowing the story of the anime, even, the combination of the images and music is deeply moving. It almost seems as though the music were meant to be set to it all along.

Well, you know how I am with titles... I'd say do it; especially if you put them in somewhere in the early section, which is a bit 'slow' in comparison to the later parts, it would be a good idea. But I really don't think they're neccesary; I mean, I haven't seen the movie either and understood the story from the vid, and I didn't really question whether or not there's more story behind this. It does alright without titles, though it could be just as fine with them.
As for Bebop...
I don't think even I have that much space on my hard drive right now (time to enter Globocide's contest
). But as I've said before, I could even do away with just the movie. And I think I still would prefer working with the actual .vobs. I'm still looking around if the movie surfaces somewhere in local stores, but no luck so far.
I'm kind of taking a bit of an AMV break again. Seems I really don't have the stamina to edit constantly - but we'll see what comes up in the next couple of weeks. I just need to get my head together now

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

I uploaded a 40 Mb version of RFAN 4.0. I made it for people who have dialup and if you already have the larger version there is no need to get this one cause it's a slightly older version and it has some pop frames and unomptimized transitions. (ironicly though it's the only version where premire corectly exported the first ten seconds but that's a minor issue.)
My plan for the video at this point is as follows:
1) experiment with titles in the first section
2) shorten the "Roses" scene and ad in some foreshadowing for the flashback.
3) shorten the "old piano" scene and add in more action, make the ending clearer and more powerful. (and of course bitch at the song for ending so suddenly, try to edit it and fail miserably

I was just wondering if you got the Diva Dance in the inbox. It's not in the inbox or the out box. At least that I can see.

yea I agree with Pen-pen on this one. If you can do the video with downloaded footage, then I would be able to get you just the clips in Huffy and upload them to the website.pen-pen2002 wrote:I wouldn't use divX because of the keyframe issue. It's in videos in progress because it was labeled as an avi.Songbird21 wrote:Rose4Emily-

Was it supposed to be audio only? If so, why the .avi? For that matter why 14 Mb that's to big to be an .mp3 and too small to be a .wav (I think.)
I'm confused....

I had to decompress it from an MP3 to edit the sound file and my Adobe Premiere doesn't export in MP3. So it's the only thing I could do. Gomen.pen-pen2002 wrote:It's in videos in progress because it was labeled as an avi.Songbird21 wrote:Rose4Emily-

That said this is an easy 5 star video, and the video to beat at ANY con.

(I'm not trying to be vain or anything. I don't think it's true at all. Just that someone would even say that just blew me away and I had to get it out somehow.)
