So far I have:

6 people interested in AMV Heaven

2 people interested in NIN Project

8 people interested in DDR MAX Project

Also, this thread has over 200 views, I know there's a lot of people out there not making their voices heard. Comment, people! Remember, you're not committing to edit by expressing interest! You could just be expressing an interest to watch the finished product.

I could probably go for some AMV Heaven or DDR, I suppose...

Here's a question...

If you were going to edit in the DDR Project, do you think that you'd be able to edit OK if the provided audio source was 22KHz mono wav files (To cut down on the amount of space they take up, and the amount of time to transfer them)?

Example: Track 1, with a 5 second buffer on either side, is 2:36. It cut from the timeline at 44KHz 16 bit stereo as a file that is 27MB. The same audio, done at 22KHz 16 bit mono was only 6.7MB. That's a big difference, and the quality loss is not so terrible that it's uneditable.

UPDATE: QUality loss is unacceptable on some tracks when done like this. Looks like the best way to go is to dump them as big 44KHz wavs, and then encode them to mp3 or zip them. I will try both and get back to you on filesize numbers and quality degradation...

Let me know what you think.

Also, I have a high quality MP3 of the megamix, but if anyone out there actually has the CD and is willing to donate audio for the project, message me here, on AIM, or on IRC. The MP3 sounds good, and would probably work just fine as the distro audio source, so this is not essential... but would be nice, again.

OK, using track 2 (Nori, Nori, Nori), here's the results...

22KHz, 16 Bit, Mono - 4MB - This is totally unacceptable
22KHz, 16 bit, Stereo - 8MB - This isn't so bad, actually
44KHz, 16 bit, Mono - 8MB - This is pretty bad sounding
44KHz, 16 bit, Stereo - 16MB - This is great

OK, so it seems like making it mono is the quality killer for the most part.

Now, let's see what happens if we compress the 44KHz stereo clip. Remember, this CAME from an mp3, so making it an mp3 again COULD make it sound pretty bad...

OK well, despite the fact that it's come from an mp3, and been turned into an mp3 again, it doesn't sound too bad! It's better than the 22KHz wav, and at 128kbps CBR, it's only 1.48MB!

And on the compressed container front, the rar was 13MB, the zip was 15MB, both were set to Best compression.. so that's definitely not as nice as the mp3. (I didn't think it would be :P )

So, yeah.. looks like I would be able to distribute the tracks as CBR mp3's pretty easily. (Editors would be responsible to convert to wav for editing, though.)

I would like to see AMV Heaven. I don't know how many times I have seen a shot that fit but the rest didn't or get an idea in my head but can't do it cause the rest sucks.

DDR I kind of got tired of but I'd watch it if it was made. NIN I only know one song so I don't have a strong opinion on that one.

On AMV Heaven...

Not to discourage you or anything, but I don't really see it as being an interesting video. When people have a normal video... well, people want to see ALL of it. AMV Hell works because it makes people laugh. AMV Heaven works why? People are going to want to see a bunch of incomplete videos? If you could find a way to make it not be boring as hell, you might have something there though...

Yah, I know. It's ionteresting in theory, but making it interesting would be difficult.

Perhaps a main theme is needed first. Then hopefully there would be similar enough elements that you could get away with the characters or situations reacting to each other throughout the scenes. It would also help if the music could flow together as well. I.E. one song says: I want to love you... and the other says: until the day I die. Granted it would be hard to do but it could happen.

Mad libs in a way. Just keep a central theme and fill in the parts to make the story whole.

Why do I feel like that made no sense whatsoever.
