Re: AMV Salad 4: TV Dinner (TWO WEEKS LEFT!!!)

Post by Squancho » Thu Apr 15, 2010 10:50 pm

I'm gonna line up whatever material I have that is going into this year's project and see how we're doing for time.

Depending on what comes in by the deadline one of three things will happen:
1. we'll have enough to create a standalone video.
2. we'll be too short for a standalone video but have enough to "reformat" into an "addendum" to AMVS3 (changing channels after the DBZ clip "to see what else is on").
3. we'll postpone the release of this year's video until we come up with enough material for a proper video.

I've heard from a couple of you opting for the third outcome and I'd hate to miss an Otakon premiere because we couldn't get enough editors to unite under this theme. Still, it's up to the lot of you. I won't know which way this is gonna go until the deadline (which I realize gives me room to extend a "grace period" of up to a week) so let's roll on this.

I also realize AMV Hell 5 is also in production but things seem to be going slow for them as well. Their deadline is in July, too. Anyway, I have a couple of clips to work on myself. Let's move...

I'm attending Otakon so I was hoping to see it...I'm still hoping to do another clip (about 30 seconds). I need to get a move on!

I can promise several, two shorter ones are complete now, I've sent a preview of the second to your e-mail to take a glance at as well, Deuce. I still have half a month while sending out applications to hammer away at this, and have every intention of working my ass off up until the deadline (and beyond if I can) to make as much worthwhile material as I can. I plan at least 2 minutes.

But no matter what happens, please, PLEASE submit AMVS3 again this year ^^ I can promise you as a fanparody audience member since 2001 that I have no problem seeing funny stuff again. It only showed once at Otakon, so a second run would be awesome, especially as a lead-in to AMVS4 if it does end up happening. Plus it still seems like I was the ONLY one in the room that night from the creators of AMVS3. On top of that... with the exception of the big 3 or 4 fanparodies like Otakudom and such, really very few of the other ones are often funny, so anything actually funny, even if it's a repeat, will lead to a grateful audience.

Plus if I have to deal with the "Timeless Chocolate Milk" scene again from Leebop, I will slit my wrists. And that was the most amusing scene it had.

So is there a unifying element yet, Deuce? Do you have any worthwhile ideas that have crossed your pallet yet?

Wow...the clips I've seen so far have been quite amusing to say the least. Keep 'em coming! I'll be in NYC from Thursday morning until Monday evening...doing up Broadway!

See y'all in five days after my break from reality and sanity recharge...

My husband gave me an insanely good idea last night so now I have two 30 second videos I'm going to try to get done by the deadline.

Re: AMV Salad 4: TV Dinner (FINAL WEEK!!!)

KojiroShinkara needs to send me a non-Quicktime version of "Doctor Swordfish."

So far, in terms of material, we have a little more than eight minutes without credits or intro. If you have anything to throw into this project, get your clips in ASAP. I'm extending a two week-long grace period for those who are still working on theirs. After that, it's all about post-production.

I have a clip or two to add myself so I'm in the same boat. ;)

Anyway, it looks like AMVS4 is going to be an addendum to AMVS3 (a cheap ploy to extent the life of the latter but whatever). Here's the idea I have. I'm going to speed up the ending credits for 3, place them in a title screen as we did for the beginning, it's going to introduce AMVS4 briefly and the "channel" is going to "change" like the viewer is looking for something else to watch. The end will come with the viewer "turning the TV off" and saying something about how there's nothing worth watching anyway, then the end credits for AMVS4 will roll. The song will be "TV Dinners" from ZZ Top.

If anyone else has any solid ideas to throw my way, please post them here for general consideration and discussion. There are a total of 15 clips so far so I'm not sure if there's time enough for a running gag. Anyway, time is growing short...

so does that mean that I can submit up until the 14th? I have finals till next week, but I'd definitely be able to finish by then.

Just know that after that date no more submissions can be accepted. Need time for post-production and to get it to Otakon before their deadline. ;)

With that extension, I can guarantee another few clips. I'm going to attempt to do the music ones I have in mind. Both of them are short 10-15 second ones, on top of the 4 I've shown you, and I'm finalizing the fifth 1-minute long one tomorrow. It came together well and I found a fun little ending that made me and the friend who was there with me laugh for a couple minutes when I accidentally discovered it ^^ As of this post, lip-syncing is half done.

I may actually manage the two brief songs, one other smaller clip, and if I'm really ambitious, get that 1:30 long one I mentioned done since unlike most of my other ones, I know where the footage I want is for that one. Again, I'm attempting to reduce its time, but it's a pretty full clip. I'll keep at it though.

If you make it an addendum to AMVS3, it'll definitely bring it over 30 minutes even if I don't get to the 1:30 one. May as well call it something different either way. Oddly enough, I think it was you who used AMVHell 3.14, weren't you ^^ Such irony that it would be the perfect name for this one. Maybe you could take a page out of the Naked Gun book and call it AMV Salad 33 1/3.

If it makes it to around the 12-minute mark, which it looks like it can with the new clips en route, wouldn't it be okay to let it be AMVS4? The only issue then would be deciding on a quick running gag. It doesn't have to be an extremely present running gag. "Smoke" was totally fine for AMVS2, in fact it's the best one yet. If it becomes part of AMVS3, you'll have to consider some new Adult Swim bumps. Oh, and you'd HAVE to do something with Robot Unicorn Attack ^^ Even if it's just the unicorn sprite running through the opening with the announcements, and the announcements quickly switch to "You will die a horrible, fiery death" like in the game, then returns to the announcements. Actually, you know, if we could get ahold of the sprite, Robot Unicorn Attack could become the running gag.

Honestly it doesn't seem like you need to do anything special besides use the AMVS3 file and place the newer clips in appropriate locations to maximize joke delivery. Then gag about the fact that it's basically an extended AMVS3.
