I actually only say about five minutes of that film. During that five minutes, Jack Nicholson was actually being polite. That really was terrifying. :)

Actually, his character in Easy Rider really was a nice guy - but that was before he made a name for himself as America's favorite jerk.

Anyhow, I definately will have a chance to update the intermission this weekend - and should have enough time to start the narrative videos. I'm on a bit of a block with the intro, so I think I should probably leave that aside for a bit in hopes of regaining some inspiration as to what it should look like.

I really would like to get the last of the project files ASAP, even though I really can't process everything in a single weekend, because I'll need to take the server down soon if I'm going to do all of the system cleanup and configuration necessary for me to test the possibility of running a BT tracker. I've also found what looks like a promising set of applications for running some real Java web services and (as a more immediate concern) a web forum similar to this one that would prove very useful in some of the software project management I will be starting up with Hikari (my video editing application-in-development) over vacation in a couple of weeks. Since all of these things are going to have to work nicely alongside each other, I will probably have to do a clean install and have all of them properly configured before they go into use if I'm going to avoid problems down the line.

Argh, now I'll have to re-learn SQL. Oh well, I'll probably be needing it again when I go back to the office in the summer anyhow, and the standard [i[has[/i] been updated since the last time I did any real database development.

I've just purchased a spindle of DVDs and few spindles of CDs on some of my excess meal plan debit (amazing how much less it costs to eat when you have an apartment with a kitchen), so I'll be archiving the current Instrumentality files (it's really about time to do that anyhow), and cleaning off the remainder of the documents and media residing on my server's hard disk as I get the chance, so I'll be in good shape for the system-wide reconfiguration needed to properly handle the added BitTorrent tracker and web forum functionality, and to fix the security and crashing issues I'm having with my FTP server.

I've had trouble with explorer and other ftp programs. I can't say how the ftp is right now though. However, I use FileZilla now; it is open source and always works for me! Check it out. There is also a ftp server version if you're curious.

I just ordered the Memories DVD online *crosses fingers* with priority mail shipping. As soon as I get it I will be able to submit my AMV. Really sorry about being the hold-out here.

And yeah, Filezilla rocks.

The reason you can't get into the FTP right now is that it isn't up.

I finished backing up all the project files, along with the rest of my files, and then re-imaged my computer so I could start testing with the BitTorrent tracker idea, but I had to put off re-configuring the FTP for the moment to work on my latest assignment for my animation class and my code for the current CompSci project.

The server itself is up and running, I just haven't set up a new account yet. I'll probably have that done this afternoon - tommorrow afternoon at the latest - and will PM the new login info to everyone once I have it ready.

I won't be posting the new login publicly, and I'd appreciate it if no one else did either, because I've also been having some problems with unknown persons dumping random files on my machine as if it was their personal transfer server. That in itself is reason enough to have terminated service on the old account.

I will put all of the project files back up on the server, but it'd be best if you didn't download anything you don't absolutely need - as I've also been pushing the limits of what I can reasonably upload without getting kicked off my ISP as of late.

---

Pen-Pen: If you can't get the file up through FTP, you can burn it onto a CD or DVD like DWP did and send it through the mail.

---

Jasper: I don't know about not being able to connect over the last month or two. The FTP was only taken down late Friday night. It's been up almost nonstop up to then. You might have had problems if you were trying to use a static IP (as that changed when I moved (about a month ago...) to my new apartment), but the domain should be pointing you in the right place.

---

Once again, the FTP will be back soon (a "within 24 hours" soon - rather than a "this project will be done soon" soon"), and I'll PM the new login info to all project members.

I've got all but the Debussy Narrative in. I'm still having trouble with it. You should have the others in your inbox.

Yup - I have the other narratives (in the backup archives anyhow, I haven't re-extracted and sorted all the files yet).

I've put up the new FTP account and am now sending the login info through the PM. Once again, this is meant to be a private account for the project, so it'd be best to only share the login through private means to avoid a repeat of the problems I've had with it being abused by non-members.

The "outbox" content will return tonight. I just want to take a little time to organize it all in the format I need it in to facilitate the compilation progress before I post it.

In case you missed it rose4emily, here's some good news for the future project distribution on Phade's part.

This'll definitely make the distribution issue easier, once implemented...

Definately good news. :)

I've put most of the "oubox" content back up. The updated intermission isn't in there yet - as I archived it separately from everything else, and haven't yet made an XviD encoding of the losssless PNG render (which is much too big for practical downloading).

I also discovered, about ten minutes ago, that I had set the "inbox" to allow write access - but assigned that access to the old username, making the "inbox" effectively useless. About five minuts ago, I fixed this problem. You should now be able to upload files without the system telling you you aren't authorized to do so.

I've also been in the process of redesigning my website (I'm hoping to get a couple of the local authoring contracts that keep popping up, and recognized that I needed a better example of my design capabilities than the old site offered). As part of this process, I've moved it off of my home server and back onto Grace (RIT's main webserver), where it's much faster and doesn't have to compete with my FTP or my politically-focused roommate's love of streaming news video. I'm not sure if doing so will have the added benefit of bringing the FTP out of its current crawl rate - but I can hope.

I should note that "www.thewired.info" and "thewired.info" no longer point to the same computer. Now you really have to type "thewired.info" as the domain, rather than "www.thewired.info", or else you'll be attempting to log into a non-existant account on Grace.

---

The remainder of this weekend has to go toward finishing my CS project and starting my "sound poem" animation (essentially a choice between making a short music video or having fun with Foley effects - I think I'll go with the former). I should have some downtime coming up midweek, however, so I'm hoping to finish writing/testing the compilation and rendering script I'll be using to encode all of the titles/narratives and to join all of the encoded segments together. Until then, I've put up some of the command-line history behind the encoding process used on the video segments as notes to myself on how everything else has to be encoded. If you're curious, you can see them too - in the "notes" section of the "outbox".

---

I think I'm still missing end-credit pictures from DWP, Ooshna, and Songbird. I have a note from Ooshna on capturing a specific part of the video for his video image, though, so I suppose I'm only really missing five end-credit images - not six. If you want to go with the "faceless" person image, that's okay, but I'd like to at least get either a capture or a note on what to capture for the video picture.

There will be a male "faceless" image if needed, I just haven't made one yet.

I'm also missing narrative slides for "Requiem for a Nightmare".

Finally, there's still Pen-Pen's video (which I know will arrive as soon as is reasonably possible), and Songbird's narrations (okay, so I know I've recieved most of them already, but the external drive I backed them up on is having some hardware-level issues and refuses to let me read anything beyond the 18 GiB mark - on a 120 GiB drive). It's a good thing I had everything else put in multiple places, but the narratives - being the files recieved most recently, are currently inaccessible on my end. I have a couple of friends here who might be able to help me retrieve them, but it might be faster for Song to resubmit them.

I hereby give Song permission to hit me with one (1) large blunt object of her choosing.
