Return of the Five topic post!
Ooshna: he might have been a little biased but it doesn't look like a vengence review to me. 2 Is pretty rediculos for effort but he did have reasoning behind it. The lowest score is dropped anyway.

Today I was poking around my college to see if they had any video editing software. I found an entire lab with negitive scanners and immage editing software. For video, I found a tiny room with a Hi8 digital recorder and TWO VCRS! The search continues...
*******
I'm working on capturing the images for my monolouge now. I'll upload the video as soon as I can connect to the server. Any progress reports Rose4Emily? People have actually been talking about my video but I've already to decided to wait until after Animasia comes out for extra publicity so pardon the renewed impacience.

I've been listening to the song a bit (read: all the time, it's playing in the backgroud pretty much whenever I'm at my computer.) and I'm starting to get visual ideas, which is very exciting. It looks like there is going to be a new "Multi editor" forum so I might as well wait to post the project thread. As far as ideas go, unless you guys can think of one, I don't think any theme will work for this whole thing. I'm wary about giving out large blocks of time because I think this project will thrive on variety (as opposed to techno projects, which I don't care for, that thrive on effects.) Long videos are dangerous, and the best ward againt potential problems will be to keep things moving. Of course we may not have a choice, I don't know how many editors will go for something like this. If worst comes to worst we can split up the song amongst the three of us, if it gets worse that that we can cut it off at 13:00.
Actually, I lied. I have thought of a theme that might work. We could concentrate as much as possible on "musical synch." If I havent explained my use of the term I mean matching the visuals up the the physical charicteristics of the music as opposed to the lyrics or mood. This type of editing can be seen a lot in "Orontario of Ghibli" and the latter half of "Hungry like the wolf" (hint, watch when kiki is almost hit by the cars.)
*****
I finally got my video entered in the Globocide contest. Wish me luck.

As much as I enjoy that, isn't that technically not a theme, but rather an editing approach?pen-pen2002 wrote: Actually, I lied. I have thought of a theme that might work. I do like that approach myself... (mainly because I can actually do it half-decently, unlike effects)
Variety should work, if we can make it work.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

I've solidified my concept for the intro and credits and have started the drawing work necessary. Now that I have access to animation cranes, I'll actually be able to shoot these things with a bit of movement as well, without having to wait for the completion of my compositing program.
As to the scripts, sorry on the delay. I've lost the original files, but will transcribe them and make any final edits that I think might improve upon or correct problems caused by my original edits sometime Saturday afternoon, after I'm done shooting this week's animation assignment.
I do think it's a good idea for Songbird to do all of the Fullscreen narratives. I'll do the Widescreen narratives, and should be able to get my hands on a top-notch microphone now that I'm living with a pair of film majors (one of whom is currently studying studio sound engineering for live-action film). At the worst, I've found a dynamic mic that's much better than the Radio-Shack lavelier mic I had to use the first time, and now have a recording space where I can speak louder and, consequently, increase the SNR while standing farther back from the mic to reduce wind-noise and the lowpass proximity effect.
As to my graded animation projects - I spent eight hours of the previous weekend on creating twenty seconds of jumpy construction-paper footage depicting a goldfish that turns into a bat. I'll post that this weekend when I update my website to make it better suited to its upcoming purpose as a software project site. The good news is that I seem to work at a faster pace than the makers of South Park did when they were using construction-paper cutouts. The bad news is that I just had to compare my work to South Park to justify it's visual crappiness. Oh well, first project, had to get used to the camera-stand-thingy somehow.
Now, when I think about it, an animation crane bears a strong resemblance to a 3-dimensional cast-iron etch-a-sketch.

Rose4: Have you been in touch with Songbird? You might wanna email her and make sure both of you know who's narrating which parts, just in case there's confusion.
Interesting that you should say that. I've been exploring a new style of editing in my newest amv. (Previews are located here if anybody wants to take a look.) In it, I try to match up landscapes and movement with the music, as if nature were "singing." (The ebb of the water at 0:09) I don't know if this is what you would call musical synch. What I want to do is just capture the beauty of the song in the video. It would be so tempting to synch to all those guitar notes in the beginning, but that would undermine the subtlety of the whole video. "Oversynching" in amvs these days, in my opinion, is really distracting and takes away from the overall feel of an amv.pen-pen2002 wrote:We could concentrate as much as possible on "musical synch." Anyhoo. As soon as you get me the text files I'll get ta work. I have a shiny new digital mic for it too.
Sorry for the invisible act guys. It's the board's fault.
By the way. You guys have known me long enough. I think you can just call me Song now. Lol.

Sweet. Thanks Kali- Waaaait a minute. Your not one of us... It's a spy, a spy in our midst! Guess the seventy pages what amounted to our own personal mini-forum wasn't an unsurmountable veil of secrecy after all.Kalium wrote:Ask and ye shall recievepen-pen2002 wrote:Can anyone host "When the water breaks" so I can put up a direct link when I create the Progect thread?

Seriously though, thanks a lot. Any chance you be interested in joining our little endevor?
Oh, and if anyone has any name suggestions, throw them out, because I'm stumped. I've been doing some reserch into the backstory, and I must say that "when The Water Breaks" is a very appropriate name for the song.

But, yes, the story behind it is awesome. These guys rock.
