Nah, it's a decent start. Perhaps saying this is a bit cocky, but it's sort of natural to assume that, when looking for feedback on multi-editor instrumental ideas, it's best to go to the project where people seem to know them best

I would still do it because I think that such a video deserves to exist, but it would not be as good. To really make it shine we need a group of talented editors, each focusing on a difrent aspect of the song. At worst, it will be a too long video that few will see or care about, but at best... Can you immagine if we go the kind of technical expertise that the animix projects get but instead of a bunch of strung together, heavily cut, DDR tracks, we gave them a song like this? An abstract soundscape from difrent sources and editing styles all combining into a single sensory experience.
Funny how that exactly reflects what I thought about several of my favorite pieces (that go into the 12-14 min. range).

I'd say it'll definitely happen. And for those of you who haven't heard it, it really deserves to be made into a multi-editor project based on its' huge variety and musical energy, and it definitely needs a whole number of good editing hands/brains to get it right based on its' musical complexity. I really can't imagine what sort of hellish work it would entail to do all this alone and make it look appropriately impressive!

Anyway, anyone who hasn't heard the song... I suggest you drop by the music forum on demonseal, where a sample is provided, just to hear it.

We'll take it elsewhere soon.

I say 'we' because there's no way I'm getting off this project now (well, unless footage kills me, which shouldn't really happen)

!!!

Wowowowow!! I just spent 17minutes listening to that song... and it was probably the most awesome piece of music that I've ever heard. If you're seriously turning this into a project, I want in. Like now.

:plays song again:

Score one more for us :P

It seriously sucks that Flint is in a bind with his computer right now. It would be really great if he could be in on this project too, seeing how he kinda got us on the right path here...

I think we can start thinking about taking this to a new thread now. I suspect there will be sufficient interest, even if the segments might turn out a bit on the long side (which I wouldn't mind, really). In fact perhaps it's better not to have too many tracks on the project, which should give it a bit more conceptual consistency, and also mean that longer/tougher segments will probably make people think a little and make the committment seriously rather than just a bandwagon sort of deal.

I haven't had a chance to pick the piece apart completely yet; but with luck, I might be able to buy the CD in the next couple of days (and listen to it on repeat... a lot...)

Yeah, I've been working on it but I could use some of your expertise (considering you predication for active listening. Here's what I have so far:

(These are NOT tracks, they are significant points in the music where it changes thematically or dramatically) One option is to switch anime at every point (repeating anime as nessicary, hopefully using similar theames for each time an anime appears.) Of course some could be combined, others split up depending on the nature of the flow. The only section of really significant length though is 8:00-10:00 (depending on how strict you are.)

I tried to cross refrence the themes(#). It's really REALLY hard.

A 0:00
B 0:25
C 0:39 >>> #1 Heavy
D 1:02 >>> #2
E 1:51 >>> (Faint)#3
F 2:56
G 4:13 >>> #3
H 4:35 >>> #4
I 4:46 >>> #5
J 5:42
K 6:00
L 6:13 >>> #6
M 6:30
N 7:08
O 7:30 >>> #3 (sounds different)
P 7:47
Q 8:17 >>> #7
R 8:40
S 9:00
T 9:35
U 10:09 >>> #2(1/2)
V 10:38 >>> #4?
W 10:50
X 11:11
Y 11:30 >>> Hellsing?
Z 12:03
AA 12:50
BB 12:51 >>> #3
CC 13:15
DD 13:33
EE 13:46
FF 14:14
GG 14:25
HH 14:35
II 14:53
JJ 15:14
KK 15:37
LL 15:51 >>> #?
MM 16:27 >>> #1
NN 16:35 >>> #3
OO 16:41 >>> #4?
PP 16:50

Watch the video while looking at the chart and see what comes to mind visually.

hm, nice song
interesting idea for a project
we've had all these big techno/dance multi-editor projects and few metal projects (i can only think of project kut-up, and that seems to be stagnant), even though metal seems to be the most popular genre here.

i dno if i'll be able to participate though. it hasn't struck any ideas in me yet, and i got a few other videos to do...

also, happy mid-autumn moon festival everyone!

I think we could make a new thread as soon as the segments are determined. I don't know if it's possible to concretely create a concept for this... it might end up being just as vague as the one for Animasia. You know, edit to the music... tell your own story... But then, since this is only one song, we'd want the segments to be somewhat homogenous. I don't know... maybe we could play off the "experimental" aspect of the music? @__@

But anyway... erm... the real reason I'm posting now is to ask if I could take the first two minutes. :D I'm really partial to piano music, as y'all probably know by now.

I think the themes might be even more intricately related then you think there Pen-Pen - there's a lot of partial overlaps and cross-references. I can probably get it figured out but I still haven't heard the piece enough. Right now I only have a good grasp of what you call Theme #7.

Which is why I can say
MM 16:27 >>> #7 (faster)
But yea, this will take a lot of picking apart.

Visual wise... tough. Of course, there's the old saying 'explosions solve everything', but I'd really hope that the video would focus on that less. It would be really good to try and take the dramatic potential over the effects/flash here, which is kinda challenging, but it's worth a try.

I'll be looking over some possible sources, maybe even try to do a few random edits to see if anything interesting comes out.

Anyway just look at the op I got can anyone here think that the scores he gave me could be what he actually thinks? Just click the link in my sig. Sorry to bitch and moan but that video is the best thing I have ever done.

valeyard's?

her op looked like she didn't like the music choice for akira, which reflects her personal preferences. and it can be hard for anybody to get into a vid when he/she doesn't like the music choice.

anyways, don't worry about every op you get. it's impossible to please everyone.
