As to scripts for Songbird's narrative recording, most of what I did was very similar to the ones on DWP's site, but I can make up a set of text files with my (generally minor) edits if she'd prefer to work off of those.

is she going to do every narration? or every other?
and if you want to post the text files, or at least the edited ones, i can update it in my site.

A new multi editor project?
This was orriginally a PM to Otohiko but I decided I'd like some feedback from all you guys, so bear with me.
****
So, I won a category at Pro. As much as I thought about it and worked for it I never really thought it was going to happen. My happiness is tampered a bit by the fact that I created the category I won in, I created it specifically for my video to win, and worded it in such a way that I would have no real competition. But anyways, that's not the point I'm trying to get at. The point is that the reason I pushed so hard to get in the contest was that I belived that it was my one shot, that I could never make a video as good as that one. (I have a much lower opinion of the video now, then I did back then.) But regardless of this or that, after all that I did win, I did what I set out to do and now I'm left with a feeling of "What next?" Everything was focused on that one video and now it's finally done.
Then out of the blue Flint_the_dwarf re-appears on the forums. I send him an IM and he points me to his live journal where, in the midst of his life story, there is a link to a song.
You see where I'm going with this? (Hint: look at the subject.) The song is long but interesting and seems to change musical genres faster than you can think. It's called "When the Water Breaks" by Liquid Tension Experiment.
The song can be found here.
So, What do you think? There are certainly problems with the idea, and I'd have trouble attracting editors to such a unconventional project, but it's the first idea in a while to get me really excited.

That about describes it for me.pen-pen2002 wrote: There are certainly problems with the idea, and I'd have trouble attracting editors to such a unconventional project, but it's the first idea in a while to get me really excited.
Hey, don't worry about it. If it comes to worst, we'll both have about 8.5 minutes each

Seriously though, provided lack of footage doesn't kill me (and I'll beg mercilessly as soon as I get to anime club, or raid every rental store in town...), I'm all over this already, just as I'm all over the piece in question.
I'll gladly take several segments. I'd prefer them to be a tad less action-packed and tricky (since, as you know, effects and fast action aren't my strength), but I'd honestly do as much as I possibly can

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

who cares if you created the category

Heh, I think he was a little excited there and over-worded stuff
That's it there. It's a 17-minute experimental rock instrumental piece.

yea but whats the idea? just any kind of editing to any kind concept to this song? I mean is there a specific direction or concept? or hes just asking about the song choice?

Well, the song is very diverse, but there are several very interesting directions this could go. Flint would probably be best at explaining the story of the music piece, but one thing associated with it is the fact that the wife of one of the musicians went into labour as this was being recorded. Concept-wise, seeing how musically-expansive this thing is, you could easily turn it into something celebrating/extensively portraying life in general.
This could go in many directions. A part that I told Pen-Pen that I would want to do features a musical theme I already know very well and would really want to work with.

What a coincidence, My favorite part starts at 10:10! 2:50 is my other favorite.Otohiko wrote:And I know what section I would really want (please?):
8:17 - 10:08.
That's the exact length of Tony Levin's 'Seizure' bass riff. I don't know what I would do, but that section is what really got me... I think it has to do with the fact that the exact bass riff on it is also basis for several ProjeKcts/King Crimson improvs that I love to death and consider the creepiest rhythm that I know of.
I'd try to do it myself but It would have two major problems: One, it would be WAY to long for just one series (and too diverse as well) and there is no way I could get enough footage to do it justice. Ideally there would be a new source for each switch in musical styles (and recuring source for recuring themes if we wanted to get crazy.)
Two, if I were to do it on my own (or even with one other person) it would be to big to get the attention it deserves. I would still do it because I think that such a video deserves to exist, but it would not be as good. To really make it shine we need a group of talented editors, each focusing on a difrent aspect of the song. At worst, it will be a too long video that few will see or care about, but at best... Can you immagine if we go the kind of technical expertise that the animix projects get but instead of a bunch of strung together, heavily cut, DDR tracks, we gave them a song like this? An abstract soundscape from difrent sources and editing styles all combining into a single sensory experience.
Arrgh! Otohiko, what have you done? Your bad influence has turned me into a hopeless visionary! And I used to be as cynical as the best of them...

Maybe I should start another thread and not hijack this one.

Re: A new multi editor project?
You have a very good point. Keep in mind that this is an idea in the very early stages of development. It needs a lot of developing before I can begin publicizing/recruiting. As Otohiko said, I got kind of exited and just started blurting out ideas.Bakadeshi [AuN Studios] wrote:yea but whats the idea? just any kind of editing to any kind concept to this song? It will all make sense eventually...
I hope.
