Genki's Song
Hi everyone! This is my entry for Mix Con 2018, category retro. Monster Rancher is the anime that I edited: when I was young I loved this series and I think it's a pity that it wasn't popular as similar series (of that period) like pokemon or digimon! About the amv, I wanted to tell Genki's story, a boy who finished in the monster rancher world! I hope you like it!

Re: Genki's Song
WOW! Never thought that I'd someday see a good Monster Rancher AMV. I don't think that anyone will be challenging you for the title of "Best Monster Rancher AMV of all time" anytime soon . Definitely throwing this one into my archive
P.S. The video totally reminded me that I never actually finished watching that show. I guess I should fix that

Visual/Audio: First of all, I found the song choice to be very interesting and peculiar. It dealt with a serious topic but the AMV for the entire first half and end was pretty upbeat. Visually, you did a great job sticking the source material and finding great scenes to emphasize the beat without resorting to effects.
Synchronization: The sync the downloaded version was pretty good. The YouTube version felt like the sync was off the majority of the video. You did an excellent job matching the proper scenes beat, and your cut frequency synced with the varying pace of the song.
Story/Theme: Overall, I felt the message was the opposite of the song that accompanied it. Instead of the individual falling into despair and hopelessness, he helps others overcome such attitudes and overcomes trials himself instead of succumbing to them. The end shows him leaving the room into a bright, sunny day, which again echos the opposite sentiment of the song.
Overall it was a pretty interesting study and watch.

I liked this.
I don't even know if it "worked" or not but I just liked it and am glad you made it.

Re: Genki's Song
...Retro? I guess. I think I'd just call it "high school" (at least the song, I don't remember Monster Rancher, so I have no idea how old I would have been). "Old" joke here.
This was very well edited. I thought you did a great job with the beat, tempo, and volume of the song. However, I couldn't get over the fact that I've always seen Adam's Song as about suicide (either attempted or successful), and given that I was a teenager when this song came out and Blink-182 sung from and for the adolescent perspective, I just felt really uncomfortable with this pairing. A song I've always associated with the worst emotions and feelings of my teenage years paired with what is very much the Japanese equivalent of a Saturday Morning Cartoon just... Didn't work for me.
