Just finished this Full Metal Panic AMV

No robot fighting! I thought this song would fit well with the events of The Second Raid.

Seems like you re-uploaded it? Unlike the embedded video in your post, the link in the description still works. Why not upload it to the Org, too? They won't take it down like Youtube.

I haven't watched more than a few episodes of one season of this series, but it seems like you're going for some thoughtful lyric sync or character profile, which is cool in my book. I like the old-school vibe of this. The changing aspect ratios were kind of a distraction, but a much better alternative to stretching out the 4:3 footage (although that final shot kind of looks like it got the stretched-out treatment).

This kind of music and dramatic tone is not really my cup of tea, I admit my prejudice up front so feel free to disregard anything I say about this.

You mention that you gave this video a re-edit due to a scene in the middle going on for too long. That probably was a very good move. I think some more tweaks to longer scenes would have improved this even more. I say this as someone who edits with long, LOOOONG scenes himself. But this is a hard rock song that wants to push the tempo. Sequences like 0:48-1:21, despite working with the song's lyrics, work against the actual flow of the music. One the other hand, a sequence like 1:30-1:41 gets this right, or at least closer to establishing a working relationship between the music and the visuals.

Again, shots like 1:41-1:43 (two whole seconds of a static laptop screen, yes, I know it exists to lead into the shot where he's showing that Lenovo ThinkPad who's boss) and 2:25-2:27 (standing in the rain, I get it, but this is such a dull-looking shot and it's bookended by clips that don't really lead into it or out of it in any immediately-logical way, ymmv) kind of rob this of any kind of energy that it's managed to establish.

Hopefully a FMP fan can chime in, someone who's coming from the same place you are, to say how they were feeling this or how it needs this or that to really pull off what you're going for.

This wasn't a lazy effort, I can definitely see why you made the decisions you did with this AMV. I don't think I misunderstood what you were trying to do, I just think it needs some fine-tuning. As does everyone's works.

Thanks for reposting it, man. I just came here to do it, I had changed the .Org address but forgot to do it to the post here. The scenes might make more sense if you had seen it, you are correct. Especially The Second Raid. If you've ever got the time, you should try and finish it. The first season is a bit of a slog, but Fumoffu is really funny, although it does take a pretty dark and serious turn with The third season, The Second Raid. On to other stuff!
