need a new computer?

Post by Kariudo » Fri Apr 11, 2008 9:33 pm

here's a chance to pick a dual-core computer up on the cheap

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications ... 9-1236%20L

that doesn't come with a cooler for the cpu, but this one should do the job unless you overclock

the deal ends on Sunday, April 13

the first deal has ended...but they put another one up
(you can actually still get the first one right now for $169. It was $149 after rebates a few days ago)

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications ... 8-1208%20A

it's about $50 more than the first one, and still needs a heatsink for the cpu...but this one has a little more oomph.
rebates for this one end on the 20th and 30th of April

With a CPU Fan, DVD Burner, card-reader, and a new mouse and new monitor added in I think i found my father the new computer he wanted - and it'd only be around $400.

That's an option if you're based around the UK.
Barebone kits like that are usually hard to beat (unless you want to spend a bit more,) and cost is a primary factor for most people.

It's also good to know your target that you're building for and realize that the average new machine is on the order of 10x more powerful than it needs to be to handle simple web-browsing, email, and office-type applications (even though the manufacturers keep pushing the new stuff out like everyone needs to have it).
