Just had some more fun. I took apart the center console (which includes the cigarette lighter, e-brake casing, etc), the plastic casing under the steering column, and did some electrical work. Whoever tried to work on the stereo last time really screwed up. I cut out at least 4 feet of unnecessary wiring (including a live +12V wire for the clock/stereo memory), scrapped an unnecessary RF wire extension (for the antenna), rerouted some RCA input cables under the carpeting, and bundled/cable-tied all the ugly, protruding wiring harnesses with sprial-wound polyethelyne cable wrap.

The RF extension cable was an absolute mess! Whoever put it in didn't even solder the connections. He just stripped the coax cable, tied the two leads together, and bunched it all up in electrical tape. What's really pathetic, is the fact this coax cable wasn't even necessary. I just plugged the stock coax cable from the antenna directly into the stereo as the factory intended, with no trouble.

Well, now I have to go buy a ton of machine screws to replace those that have been missing for who knows how long. Eventually I'll have to replace the center console as well, because the map box hinge bolt holes are missing, along with quite a few chunks of necessary structural plastic.

But the car is still fun! This is exactly the project car I've wanted to work on for quite a while. There's just enough of the small or easy things wrong with it to make it cheap enough to buy, and almost painless for me to fix/restore.
