Of course, please alter your friendly neighborhood hosatchel to its original name.
I have to be honest, my belief is this will discourage no one, nor do I think it speaks to the majority of file-sharing users; users that simply download but certainly do not try to turn it into a side business. Most of those users wouldn't even know how. While it is intriguing to see an actual sense of humor from these guys, I wonder if they themselves see how they have remixed themselves and our perceptions of them (those of us who remember the original ad, and I do)- and therefore are, in some way, showing just how integrated remix culture has become.
It seems to me to be an act of desperation, that through its very concept and distribution, shows the unstoppable nature of remix culture.

I lost interest in the video after about 20 seconds. What was it about?
Somewhat more seriously, if I can find out where the people in China are who are making those anime bootlegs that you see all over ebay and probably your local anime store and report them to these guys, I can get cash money? Awesome. Does this apply to ebay sellers too?

Most of those "businessmen" live in Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, Rural/Rugged West Asia Former Soviet Block countries and are entirely untouchable because of strict policies of non-extradition. Ever wonder why SonMay and EverAnime can get away with such blatant infringement? It is because in Taiwan, such copies are actually legal, and if they manage to appear outside of Taiwan, well, it isn't the Taiwanese government's concern about someone else's criminal code.Willen wrote:I lost interest in the video after about 20 seconds. You only get the money if it leads to arrests. Those guys cannot be and will never be arrested. That's why The Man goes after Grandma and Baby Brother Timmy, slapping them with a $100,000 legal suit.

Heh... considering how most if not all of the online piracy is actually uploading and downloading for free just to share, that really doesn't make much sense. A lot of countries also allow downloads for personal use and it's only illegal when you actually are making money out of it.
All donators do in most forums... recent thingy.Kionon wrote:Holy shit. I have an edit button. 0_0

Fuck yeah don't copy that floppy 2.
It's odd that they'd target bootleggers in this video. In most english speaking countries P2P is a far bigger problem than bootleggers.
Also something they didn't add, the guy in jail at the end? Well, it wasn't necessarily the selling of copyrighted materials that put him there, It was that he stole bank account information to open dummy ebay and paypal accounts.

Wait that was for real? lolz I thought it was some dumb joke some kids uploaded to utube.
Maybe kids will take them seriously if they get their rapping skills on the Phil Donahue show.
