Least Favourite Personal AMV
Ok, so we've all got favourite videos but of course we also have those that just turn our insides out. What do we do with those videos which we normally dislike? Why, we delete them of course after lamenting the wasted bandwidth and precious seconds before we hit the close button.
But what about your own work, the stuff you can't bring yourself to delete because of the hours and effort you put in to it?
I know that you probably don't hate your own work nearly as much as someone else's video that you would have liked to have never seen, but there's probably something in your catalogue that you wish wasn't there or at least is the one which you least replay.
Mine would probably be Alice Spiel or Reason. I don't think I've watched Reason in 2 years, and Alice Spiel maybe only once accidentally in the past year. Quality wise they're not all that good, but besides that, I think I created both very hastily. Reason, I made because I was very excited about Gundam SEED Destiny at the time (source were from the first 3 episodes only, I think). Alice Spiel was because I was very impressed with the song when it premiered at the Commonwealth Games and I just picked any random source I could find and Rozen Maiden just so happens to be it.
So... besides birthday/celebration/spoof videos or IC entries or MEPs, what's your personal least watched material? Oh, don't count stuff in your hard drive that you are too embarassed to upload since we're not going to know what you're talking about anyway.

Re: Least Favourite Personal AMV
For me, every time I make a amv, my skill level as an editor significantly increases. (Or at least......that's what I believe) And for this reason, I always look back at my previous amvs and see that they wern't nearly as good as i thought they were. Last year, I foolishly though that my amv could actually win a category at AWA Expo. Now that I look back at it, I see so many bad ideas that I threw in the video without even second guessing the decision. (for example, I'm not good at lip sync. And I always knew that I'm not good at lip sync. But despite this fact, I choose to lip sync the most emotional part of the song to the flaps of the most unemotional character in the series.) It seemed like a good idea at the time LOL
And my latest video, should have been a truly great amv. But despite using Sony Vegas to edit it, I stuck with windows movie maker because of my familiarity with the program. So of course, I timed all the scenes to the best of my ability, but many of them are still slightly mistimed. And when I made this amv, my standards for video quality was drastically lower than my standards today. Every time I watch my Noein Control video, I kick myself for wasting such a great concept for an amv. If I had only used my Noein DVDs as my video source and had decided to experiment with Sony Vegas, it would had been a masterpiece (or at least......that's what I believe) Even now as I make my Clannad amv, I'm still not using the DVDs that I rented from netflicks due to my lack of familiarity with virturalDub and the other programs in the amv app package.
I don't think that I can go as far as to say that I hate my previous works, but they remind me of my missed opportunities and ideas that deserved to be better executed. This is why I'm working extera hard on my Clannad amv. I want it to be something that I can still appreciate a year from now.

I would say because I tried to make something deep
and symbolic, but in the end, it probably only means something
to me-- but nobody else. Although I guess that's not such a bad thing...

Re: Least Favourite Personal AMV
I would say The Haunted Ship. I thought I had a great concept combining Memories Magnetic Rose and Yu Yu Hakusho together, but while editing it, none of the scenes came out the way I wanted, I hated the massive work I had to put into it, and it was literally a video I just wanted to get to the end and finish. I didn't enjoy a single bit of the editing process and only wanted it finished.
I think my attitude towards the video showed when it didn't make the finals at AX and Otakon 2003. I was literally thinking of retiring after making this video until the NES Project 2003 changed my mind.

I guess if I had to pick only one, I'd go with Emily. I still cringe every time I watch it, because I pretty much gutted it for the release. Still toying with the idea of remaking it one more time... >_>

Re: Least Favourite Personal AMV
Pretty much all the ones I made with VirtualDub (i.e. all the ones prior to The Nights Will See Them Through), with the possible exceptions of Nuclear Disaster* and 'Nerv' Trouble. Those two are still rather painful to watch, too, but they at least show *some* promise/improvement/increased awareness of what I was doing. The rest were mostly failures because I didn't know what the heck I was doing.
*Note: the version on LOCAL is a remastered version I did in Premiere a couple years later. All the cuts are the same as the VDub-edited version, though.
For the post-July 2003 set, it depends more on the reasons. How Not To Be Seen and the SPHS Anime Club Commercial make me cringe from the editing alone (even though those two are indisputably the two most popular videos I've made, in terms of hits/downloads), She is simply embarrassing for the fact I didn't edit the video at all (it was meant as a rip test when I found out how to work SmartRipper). Night Court hits me as hard to watch because while I thought it was a great idea when I did it, my own appreciation for the joke has really declined over the last 3 years. Shinji's Irresistible has aspect ratio flaws, but that's really the only thing I hate about it (well, and that image of Shinji holding a gun which was another lame attempt at humor), and finally, the scene choices at one part of Seta simply make very little sense.
I do have several shorts that remain unreleased that really fell flat. They were made so I could try and get the AMV Hell bug out of my system, and they will eventually be released in a compilation, but I don't know when that'll be.

Aside from the laughing at the end, what's so cringe-worthy about HNTBS? It seems pretty solid to me.Qyot27 wrote:How Not To Be Seen and the SPHS Anime Club Commercial make me cringe from the editing alone

Re: Least Favourite Personal AMV
I almost waited 3 years before I decided to upload/release something that's actually worth it and reached one of my standards. Ok the standards were not high at that time, but due to hardware issues and stuff I can say that I'm pleased with it. The very embarassing beginner videos were never released.
However let's have a look at the stuff that I actually released:
The quality sucks ass and the footage comes from MY own dvd. The editing isn't that bad and I think I did a good job with Ulead Video Studio 6 and my old 266Mhz PC, but following these beats all the time with this white flashes... Well that's not really smart. I'm just following blindly beats
and the effects are often cheesy.
From the stuff that I released: There isn't one where I have a hard time to watch it threw.

Most of the ones I hate are not downloadable but pretty much everything up until Happy Fun Time was horrible...
