In terms of "oversync"...
This has been on my mind for a while so I figured I'd just bring it up to see what others think. If you could put "oversync" into your own words, how would you explain it? Just curious as to what others think I guess. I'm not saying write an essay, just give a brief understanding as to what you think it means. Interested in seeing how subjective it is in the AMV community.
IMO: oversync isn't something that can be normalized. Hitting every drum/strum/electro/noise etc... doesn't automatically make it oversync. Oversync is perceptional in that if you are feeling repetition or constants throughout the video on certain parts from the song then it is oversynced. All so, if a certain kind of sync (whether it be one type of FX or just flat out scene switching) for every different kind of beat within the song then it is oversynced. Example: Using scene switching on drum hits AND quick guitar strums AND singer pauses etc... Overall switching types of sync and being diverse with your editing pretty much nullifies the chances of oversync.

"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson

just when some sort of synch takes away from other qualities of the amv, eg lyric syncing takes away from mood or beat syncing takes away from flow.

There is no oversyncing...
It's just a term made by ppl who don't appreciate good syncing

Oversync is sync that makes the amv feel strange.

Oversync is when I'm paying more attention to your sync than I am to the video as a whole.

I am always paying attention to sync nowadays, though...godix wrote:Oversync is when I'm paying more attention to your sync than I am to the video as a whole.

Re: In terms of "oversync"...
Oversync is when you sync more than what is really needed, IMO. It's a subjective matter, though. It could be easily noted when the scenes cuts are far too short because of syncing them to every sound possibly found on the video (I did this, and after some time passed over, I was more objective about it and could really think of what I did as oversync).

Re: In terms of "oversync"...
You're oversynced when you could replace the source with random footage from anywhere, and it'd still be essentially the same video. Because You're just showing your ability to change scenes on a beat, rather than construct a structured or meaningful video.

Re: In terms of "oversync"...
I haven't even finished a video.
So I'm not certain.
But I think it's when you make a video where something happens on every beat, every sharp sound, etc. I'm not good at wording things so my explanation is a little awkward. Flat action can be good or bad though, if overused then it just makes a video boring.
Reading this back to myself I sound like an idiot. But I'm really not familiar with this term.
