Though, it is pretty easy to find the programs needed to run things probably for editing on mac. All you have to do is lurk.

AMV.dmg would be greatly appreciated, as long as there would be a detailed guide.

I'm using Final Cut Express 4 on my MacBook. When I get a new Mac with an actual graphics card, I will be getting the Studio.

All I do when making an AMV is rip the DVD using Handbreak (into mpeg 4) and then convert it to DV (Needed for Final Cut) using mpeg streamclip.

When I tried to make an AMV on my PC using Premeire trial software, I was following the guide and the whole thing was so much more complicated. Especially the AviSynth (anyone care explaining what it even is in baby words please?) part. I guess once a mac user always a mac user.

It'll be a while in coming. I'm not even sure what programs to include in it yet, but I am doing the research now.

I've got a "MacPro" running an nVidia Geforce 7100 GS. I have Core Image and Quartz Extreme, so editing is really smooth in Premiere. I haven't reinstalled FCP, I did my leopard install on a wiped drive, but I'll probably get around to it.

That's what I am doing right now, although I still rip with MacTheRipper. Aside from ghosting issues, which I am sure can be tweaked, the output is really nice if you can spare the space for a 100% h.264 encode like I can. It'd be awesome if it were possible to use AVS like commands to tweak handbrake instead of relying on its built in pre-sets. I like Handbrake's chapter by chapter encoding option, it makes clipping quite easy since I still can't find an adequate substitute to VirtualDub.

I am then using SimpleMovieX to convert to uncompressed .mov for use inside Premiere. Again, awfully nice if you can spare the space. Its one major drawback is that it is not free (as in cost) or Free (as in open source). In fact, I'd have paid for it by now, but I haven't any means to send money out of Japan yet. The trial mode works fine, but is intentionally slowed down to a glacial fps rate. Makes me cry.

AVS is only complicated in the beginning. I WISH I could open up nano and write an avs script on Mac. Sadly, I cannot. Nothing for it to run through.

I'm not a fluent mac editor, but I have been using mac on and off for a year. I fully support the Amv.dmg thing. And it would be great to have a guide and all that to like we have for pc.

It would be great to have avisynth for mac as well, oh well, one can dream lol.

Continuing my research. I definitely think handbrake will be included. It's an outstanding tool, and its free (as in cost). I still really feel we need more control, but it's a good start. It comes with various presets, so that suggests to me that it should be possible to write presets of our own with appropriate filters. If I can manage to get access to the backend, we may be in business. It still won't be movSYNTH, but at least our output will be to our liking. I am investigating lagarith and huffyuv alternatives as well. I did, in fact, manage to get huff to work on Tiger with my mini, but I lost it all when the memory in the mini went bad. I cannot remember how to duplicate it.

Outstanding news.

Via a program called Crossover (Shareware, $40 to purchase, trial period is 30 days, may not stop functioning, I do not know yet) AMVApp 2.1 runs perfectly on Intel-based Mac OS X installations. My test disc was the Region 2 Whisper of the Heart DVD. I ripped it with a program called MacTheRipper, but DVD Decrypter should function correctly. I indexed the file via DGIndex, added filtering to the subsequent avs file and dropped it into the VirtualDubMod that came with the AMVApp (Newer versions do NOT work), and was able to encode out a short segment in HUFFYUV. This clip can be found here. I'm not fully satisfied with my filter choices, but that is completely independent of having the programs run.

Avisynth now runs on Mac. That is all.
