That's actually an interesting idea, FC. I'm curious as to how the curve falls, too.
Would you do it by videos (age at completion) or by editors (just the current age)?
I'd guess the median of the editors would be late teens/early 20's, with a standard dev being three or four years on either side of that. If you do it by videos, it's probably shifted younger by a couple years.

I'd like to see age vs length in hobby as well.
It seems statistically meaningless to lump me in my mid twenties with a more recent editor of the same age. It's seems the data that I have been doing this consistently for nearly a decade is more important my age. Take the case of Vlad, our AMV forefather, who is still making videos after what? Twenty years? And yeah, he still edits. See The Audition. Editing seems to be a real hobby for him. I know for me, editing and the community around it, has been a stress reliever for me. I can't image really ever giving it up in every capacity. I haven't crossed the line from 25 yet, but I think I have many years of editing ahead of me. Especially because I, luckily, have a career that is not demanding.
While I predict the same as Lantis, that most "editors" are teens/20s, I would also predict the vast majority of those "editors" are not really "editors" at all. Not even one hit wonders.
I think consistency in editing is a rarity period. If by normal, you mean "common," then I would say no, but it has less to do with perceptions of normalcy, and more to do with the fact that teens and twentysomethings usually have a set space of copious amounts of free time, either because of school or first job, so they begin the hobby, they have more disposable income than the family-oriented (statistically) thirtysomthing set. Beyond that and you get into "I can't even use a computer" age brackets.. Teens and twentysomethings also are at an age of experimentation and short attention spans. This is when curiosity will bring them into their hobbies that they consider self-identifying. AMVing is seen by most as part of the identity of being an anime fan, and so for the short span that many teens and many twentysomethings become very obsessed into anime, a portion of those (and thanks to hosatchel, an ever increasing portion) will attempt making anime music videos. You will not find many people in their thirties or forties, and certainly not older, even coming into anime fandom, much less willing to invest time in an artform that, again, statistically, they probably think of as childish, nor that they do not have the same amount of time to pursue anyhow.
In the end, I really believe our active community is too small to make any meaningful declarations about some statistical cut off age. Who do we count as editors anyhow? That's always the question. Do we count the Inner Circle only? Do we count all currently active members of the forums? Do we count every editor with a video count above a certain total? Do we count editors who have retired so as to show when a cutoff date might already exist? Do we count every "editor" that has uploaded a naruto/dbz/inu yasha/bleach video to linkinpark? Just what are the criteria of who you consider a valid test case?
The journey is hard, and the path is long, me thinks.

Too old to watch anime? Doubtfully, anime is for all ages as much as any other TV series or movie is.
Too old to listen to music? Commentless.
Too old to composite videos in programs? Lots of people do that for a living until they retire.
So in what sense would someone be too old to edit an anime music video?..

as my friend Ian said,
Although I am older than the dirt on which most cons are held, the day I'm too old to enjoy anime or to make an AMV is the day they can put me in the ground. You're never too old to rock and roll if you're too young to die
Pray 4 peace! Not an AMV, something you can do to help!
