Well damn, there goes one of the best sites on the net suddenly turning into one of the worst. I honestly doubt I'll have any reason to go there much anymore now. I mean what am I supposed to watch? Japanese girls dancing around with freaking masks on their face?

Well I've never been to the site before, but what about this action is NOT about the "owners" saying "no you can't use our video content"?

And, how does it make it permissible for places like here to exist?

And by logical extension, is this another indication that fansubs are rapidly becoming potentially unwelcome?

To my knowledge, laws tend to be absolute. You can't beat on one group for property rights violations, and ignore another group's property rights violations. As it invalidates your claims of property rights violations generally speaking.

This smells.

I don't think it would be possible to stop fansubs altogether anyway. I'm sure there will always be some underground source for such things.

And technically, I don't think this site was ever legal to begin with. The industry just hasn't really cared much (except for that whole Evanescence/Creed thing (I think those were the bands?)).

As the self proclaimed official moderator of my own post I request that everyone refrain from discussing fansubs.

There is a difference between a derivative work and a translated copy of a work.

And yes I was involved with fansubs before most of the people who download them these days knew they existed. Thus I feel justified that I have the right to request excluding fansubs from this discussion.

The only reason this site exists is because no one had made it their mission to take it down.

We are a joke compared to something like Utube or NND. You can bet the next target will be utube and not here.

I knew something like this action would probably eventually happen. The reason I care more about NND is because that site actually created a social phenomenon. It truly was the 2ch of video. For people who just viewed some of the content that came out of the NND community and ended up on utube you are probably not realizing the level to which the commenting system on NND changed things between creator and audience. Some would argue that for some videos the comments became more important than the actual video!

I don't even know why anime studios care about AMVs/MADs/OPs/EDs being put up on video sharing sites; it seems like free advertising to me. x(
