So I was sitting here wasting an hour watching random vids on my HD and I just realized something. For all the talk about effects, various types of sync, mood, video quality, and so on there's really only one fuckup guarenteed to bother me enough I won't like the video. Screw up the flow and you're done. Run on scenes, constant obvious beat sync, using slow boring scenes in an upbeat song (or vice versa), etc. Every other type of sync is secondary to that for me. I barely notice lyric sync unless the lyrics are VERY prominent, which they aren't in 95% of the vids. Beat sync is ok in moderate doses or when done in a non-in your face way but if it isn't there I don't miss it. Mood sync can even be off provided it's intentional (think comedy to a dark depressing song). Video quality really is a 'if I can make it out then it's fine' type of thing. Effects can be whored more than krat's mother or they can be as absent as TJ's admining and it doesn't bother me either way. Screw up the flow and it just totally kills the entire thing. After thinking about what vids I liked enough to keep having a good flow is the only consistent factor in them.
So I'm wondering when you view videos what's the thing that will break you out of it the quickest? I'm talking just kick back and watch them for enjoyment not paying attention to detail for an op/beta/whatever. Forget all the usual crap we say is bad, what mistake actually is major enough it'll make you turn off a vid the moment you see it?
This should provide about 2 posts worth of semi-interesting discussion before derailing into a video quality/effects arguement

Outside of obvious crap like subtitles; a run-on scene will break me from viewing very quickly. The second I feel a scene has gone on too long or I'm starting to wonder when the next cut will be I'm out, from thereon I question the editing of the rest of the video and can't focus anymore.

I hate it when the Song is obvious Happy and someone put a dark background into it
That's the main reason why I don't like SugarDanSen. The beginning of the amv is the best example how it shouldn't be done.
May I add that it's a fucking pain in the ass when someone tries to do a 'cool-effect' but it just turns out sucky. If effects, then it should be done with heart !
I can understand Godix but it pretty much depends much on the song if it rly requires a good flow.
I can enjoy low-quality amv's

Run-on scenes and poor mood sync will make me want to stop watching.
On the other hand cutting on every drum beat or flashing will also make me want to stop watching...
apparently it you didn't even get to two posts before video quality came up

- Linkin Park or other well-known-rock-band together with Naruto, DBZ or Bleach.
- youtube-like quality
Apart from that it's rather hard to point out. It's just I watch something and then I think "...ok, that's enough" and turn it off. Sometimes it's bad mood, sometimes bad flow, sometimes bad 'common' sync, sometimes an extremely overused idea.
I'd have to watch all vids I have on my HD and compare them to get to conclusion. But... there's something in your statement that make me think you're right ;)

I usually give the video a good 30 or 40 seconds to pull me in. If what I'm seeing jumps all over the place in terms of cutting and syncing and the music doesn't, then I turn it off. I'll usually give some leeway for video quality, but I really don't like staring at something that has to be 1/4 the size of my screen to look decent.

Subtitles:
Subs mean downloaded footage and sloppy editing (you can edit around subs if you really want to). If you didn't care enough about the video to get around the subs or actually purchase the dvd's, then why should I care enough to watch your vid?
"The Same Goddamn Naruto/DBZ Fight Scene Everyone Else Uses":

Improper Use of Non-English Music:
If the song sounds good to you, you're only half-way there. Make the effort to know what the lyrics translate to, and match your video to THAT. A fast-paced track does not automatically guarantee you can use it in your "Naruto fights <OpponentNameHere>" video...especially if the song happens to be about something completely UNRELATED to fighting.
Obvious Lack of Effort:
I've seen way too many videos where the only "editing" is taking a few 30 second fight clips and throwing them together, then hoping nobody will notice because there are positional cuts within the clip. Instant fail, because it's VERY obvious.
