HELP! out of fricken inspiration

ok, been a loooong time since i been on the amv forums, had a lot to do at college, but the name of the thread pretty much sums it up, I’m dry on ideas for amvs. In the past I had a bunch of ideas that usually sprung from hearing a particular song and then I would automatically match it with a series I had seen before, part of the hype of being relatively new at amv making. But after the initial rush I want to sit down and make amvs with impact, as in when people watch them I want a “WTF” or “OMG” reactions (in good or bad ways it doesn’t really matter). Since my last amv I’ve started like three or four potential projects but dropped them all half way through editing simply because I either didn’t have decent footage or the concepts had been used and reused hundreds of times by previous editors.

Looking back at my biggest successes, my hellsing amvs (with all gratuitous blood and gore) along with one or two others seem to be my most successful, so I guess I’m best and making amvs that mix slaughter with sync. However the next hellsing ova isn’t out until next February so I gotta think of something else, and as stated before I’m out of ideas. So I’ve put this random post on the org forums so I can have people throw ideas at me, it really is depressing to have no decent concepts at this time.

So just post stuff and maybe in the mass of flames and wreckage i'll be able to salvage a good idea for an amv

This almost sounds like it should go into the "AMV Suggestions" but if a mod moves it a mod moves it.

A lot of the ideas I've been getting lately have been either uber effectsey (stuff I haven't learned yet how to do) or contain multiple anime that I don't have sources for.. or both.

So I've been on the "lazy train" making requests from my sister's children (which reminds me I should start my next one soon)... If you are wanting to just "put something out there" taking up other people's requests can often fill up some time till you get the motivation/skill/sources/around to making those bigger ideas, and it will make whoever it is happy to see one of their ideas done (and done well).

If all else fails and you want to get the just the "WTF" reaction make something that is intended to annoy the org, and you will be guaranteed at least SOME KIND of feedback :3 (perhaps it will backfire on you as it did for me)

The request thing is working out for you though, cuz Whole Dawn was uber awesome!

As for me, I'm just sort of a MEP whore, and I get my inspirations from them.

But I am working on something right now. Releasing it on Christmas Day. Surpise surprise, it's Fruits Basket... :O

If you can't get any ideas, maybe try comedy? Might not be as cool, but its sometimes easier to think of something.

i actually just got an idea after looking over the forums a bit, it's crazy and might get my lynched by some members of the org but i think it will be interesting, definitly going to fall into the comedy category, gonna have to see if i can pull out all the source material i'll need for it though, but i think there might be a glimmer in the darkness of unoriginality

I havent done an AMV in at least a year. I have concepts I like and somewhere along the line I get bored with it and delete everything. I blame it on my A.D.D.

Try listening to some new music - that should get the ideas flowing in spades... Not that they'd necessarily be good ones, but it's a start.

Exercise is also quite effective...I get my mp3 player and go hiking 6 miles, or running, and I find my mind is usually extremely active during those times. Problem is I get home and am tired, and after I commit the ideas to a .txt file or a notebook, I get unmotivated again

It comes and goes in spurts though, it's not like you can just turn it on at will. But I completely understand the wanting to make something "OMG" or "WTF", as I generally like to do this too...I guess my motivation is to try and do something nobody's seen before. I have some "generic" amv ideas I'd like to do, but they're simply not creative enough for me to get motivated to do them.

Good luck though, best advice is to try new things...anything that might give you a new perspective on life/creativity.
