Using popular anime vs nonpopular
Do you think a person who uses a nonpopular or new anime in an amv has an advantage over the one who used a popular anime in competition? Do you believe the same applies to songs?

An AMV from a popular series has a certain advantage, simply because more people have an emotional connection with certain scenes due to the having previously seen the anime. You also need to know the people you're talking about. Popular to whom? The people that only watch TV-aired dubs? The large portion of people that watch fansubs? As an example, Naruto vids were still pretty big years before it started airing in the US.
