I have a form letter i've used for my things for the past few months if anyone's interested:
I request that you remove my video (Video Title) hosted here(a-m-v.org profile page) from your profile. As a member of the greater AMV community, I stand against this site for many quality and controlled-distribution related reasons - and also reasons involving youtube's use of the legal system as a back door for advertising. Youtube endangers the AMV community by mere association. Soon, crackdowns may result in the shutdown of legitimate amv sites.
I added the bit in the middle for personal reasons - if anyone was not aware, Youtube has been essentially blackmailing mainstream media outlets then bribing them with free advertising deals in exchange for immunity to lawsuits on their terms - that just rubs me the wrong way.

Nitpicking:

As long as those "amv sites" you're talking about distribute copies of AMVs, there's a pretty good chance that said sites aren't legitimate at all.

---

Here's a personal statement on this subject, even though nobody asked for one:

Get over it. It doesn't matter.

Also, stop calling it "theft". By doing so, you're playing the game of all those organizations out there that'd love to see fanworks like AMVs just die off. You are using words used by arguments to justify atrocities like DRM. (If you want that sort of stuff, fine, but then what are you doing here?)

Theft is what happens if some youtube member breaks into your computer, steals all copies of your video, and then irrevocably deletes those copies.

What is occurring here is not theft. What is occurring here is just copying. It is quite likely that it is unauthorized copying, but the authorization doesn't solely belong to the AMV editor.

That quoted paragraph is probably better phrased as "makes a copy of your video and irrevocably deletes all copies of that video in your possession".

The entire thing would be better phrased 'If you still have it after whatever they do then they didn't steal it from you'

I hope that won't go off topic... Well,anyway - I'll say out what's in my head :

Actualy,I've been thinking about it for a while, and now I see a chance to say it out loud, not just in my head. So my thought - why don't we try to get a deal with anime companies? Like talk them in,that they would give us,AMV creators full rights and license to this stuff. I know that this may sound unreal, and irresponsible, and kinda stupid, since there is no way a little community like we can stand against anime companies, but hey - we create AMVs,people like them, this takes them into anime, and they buy DVDs (well mostly in USA..) - this gives them profit, and reputation to that. In fact,if we would have rights from anime companies, then the only problem would be audio license (we all know about that previous incident..) , but if at least we would have right to distribute our AMVs,as some kind of trailers,or w/e,and anime companies would support that, the we could be safe , and no one could rip-off vids as most peolpe are afraid, because then it would be against the law. That way,a-m-v.org would become more popular (that's not the point here) and outsiders would have a more serious look in AMVs.

I know that my words may make no sense, but it's just what I think..

English isn't my main language,so excuse me if some words were used wrong.

hmmm .. without placing a "watermark" over your entire AMV, I don't see what can prevent someone from cutting the End Credits off!

or ... ^__^ ... maybe a filter can be added to the AMV's which would hide the makers CopyRight in every other frame ( or randomly inserted to hidden locations within the AMV ) so that they could not be so easily found ^__^ ... 8-) ... it can be done ... it would be the same way as adding sub-titles that do not appear in the Video. ^_^

-- just an idea! ... just an idea that I'm going to start using ^_~
