USA AMV Vote Nov 07, 2006
All House Representatives along with 33 Senators are up for reelection.
In light of Phade's Prophecy, AMV members may wish to take a more active role in supporting candidates who will shape copyright management for the benefit of the artists, editors, and hobbyists such as many of yourselves, if you have not already.
As such, I would like to propose that we make an effort to bring attention to these notable politicians in case fellow members are unaware.
House committees:
http://www.house.gov/house/CommitteeWWW.shtml
Looking through the house committees is usually the first place to start. As members are usually delegated to look over a certain part of the USA fabric, the task of finding out who's directly involved is lessened.
Members of the Energy and Commerce Committee:
http://energycommerce.house.gov/108/members/members.htm
This committee is of particular interest since its members deal directly with commerce. They are partly responsible for laws that will affect your buying of Anime, your possible use of that product, and other economic issues dealing with buying, selling, and using anime.
Committee on Government Reform
http://reform.house.gov/
This committee is responsible for studying and recommending reforms on the government. Changes are needed in copyright infringement laws or else this site will disappear and you may be faced with lawsuits.
Org members will also want to look at the Senate races for a fuller understanding of who's on what committee there:
http://www.senate.gov/pagelayout/commit ... s_home.htm
Of particular interest are the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation:
http://commerce.senate.gov/public/
And the Senate Committee on the Judiciary:
http://judiciary.senate.gov/
In conclusion, it's election season and as is the case, it's time to reflect on how best to protect one's on hide against the past, the present, and doomsday future.

No, Poland* is safely within Conan O'Brien's Hands.
Nevertheless, voting is the event which allows politicians to get into the position of being lobbied. From there on, it's there job to represent you and if they fail, you vote for someone else the next time.Your votes will never compare with the lobbyist dollar. Buying from the RIAA labels will affect this political balance more than a ballot box ever could.
Being a cynic and uninvolved party will produce a future will the Org is more likely to be shut down.
It really is similar to making an AMV (NOT THAT I WOULD KNOW), but it takes work, dedication and hope, hope that your project will succeed and be accomplished.
*It's Finland, for those who want to correct me. Huge points for people who get the joke.

Very important topic here. The people we vote in directly effect the legality of the AMVs which we produce.
We definitely need to get rid of the people who are just going to be bought out by the media lobbyists. I think the number 1 objective should be to vote against every single incumbent, unless you know for a fact that he is on the people's side. Objective #2 should be to vote for a 3rd party candidate. Democrats and Republicans are both going to be politicians first, and actually CARE about things second. A 3rd party candidate is far more likely to try and do what they think is right, as opposed to what is in their own best interest.

I don't see how. It'd just give them more money to lobby with.requiett wrote:Buying from the RIAA labels will affect this political balance more than a ballot box ever could.

Agreed with Zarx on the 3rd party bit. I'm not an American, but partisan politics anywhere only go so far in avoiding corporate agendas. Of course you aren't suddenly going to get a government that's on your side in this issue entirely, but you are likely to encourage a stronger voice of complaint.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Because, uh, politics affect laws, which, you know, affect things.guy07 wrote:Oh no, it's happening again, we're mixing AMVs with politics!! >_< WHY?!

You feel dirty? I'm in Rhode Island, the first (or second, depending on if you're talking to someone from New Jersey) most corrupt state in the Union. I hate political season, all these pushy, truth-twisting, manipulating ads for candidates and issues makes me feel like I constantly need a bath. Worse, I work at a newspaper...people have no idea what kind of hell on earth this time of year is for journalists.Kalium wrote:I feel dirty. My Representative is pretty much in Hollywood's pocket, despite his constituents not being involved in that industry in any significant manner.
