Is downloading clips from animemusicvideos.org legal?

yes, is this legal or not? i rly need everybody's facts and opinions as i rly want to download clips but if its not legal my dad will kill me and make me feel guilty, even after i'm murdered...-_- sad, i noe...SO PLZ TELL ME!

If you could rephrase the question to ask
"is it moral?"
then yes

Morality and legality are two completely different things. Look them up in your friendly neighborhood dictionary.

Considering that we have no videos hosted here (AFAIK) that consist completely of animation and music to which the video's editor has distribution rights, downloading videos from this website constitutes unauthorized distribution of copyrighted material. Therefore, it is illegal.

Notice that the above did not include the commissioned videos that were made for A.D. Vision, because those aren't available for download. And of all the videos I've seen with original animation, none of them also used original music, or music that was otherwise freely distributable. And that one video I saw using Kusoyaro's brother's band's music didn't use original animation, or animation that was otherwise freely distributable. If anyone does know of any videos that are perfectly legal to be distributed on this site, do let me know.

not really. it's not legal, but nobodys going to ever take legal action.
ocasionally a record company gets pissy about one of their bands music being available via amvs. in such cases, all videos with those bands are removed (evenesence, seether, creed).

as far as i know from the actual creators of anime, from interviews i've heard where they're asked what they think of fan created material - most of them are thrilled to see fan created work.

legal? not really. tolerated? by most.

if you have to, tell your dad that it's legal because it's just parody, and parody material is legal.
(obviously this is not parody, as it uses actual footage, ect. but yes, parody is legal. he'll buy the story i'm sure)
