Half-Baked or Stone Cold Crazy?
Idea I've been planning for a long while that's probably going to end up driving me stark raving bonkers. Since I'm planning on breaking into animation, and I have a vested interest in music videos, I've decided to combine the two.
I've thought for the last 5 years since it came out that Final Fantasy 7 would've made one hell of an anime series (I don't think I'm alone in that opinion). And since people seem to be sick of the same old FF AMVs, I think this might be a bit different.
My plan is to create a fully animated theatrical trailer for an FF7 anime that doesn't exist.
That's right. Animate the ENTIRE thing myself. Not a single frame of actual videogame footage in the whole thing. I dunno if it's been done before, though.
As for sound, I'm planning to use Final Fantasy music (since it's supposed to look like a trailer), and English clips from various anime as voices for the characters.
Hypothetical voice cast so far (with a reference):
Cloud Strife -- Mark Hildreth (Heero Yuy)
Aeris Gainsborough -- Saffron Henderson (Lucrezia Noin)
Tifa Lockhart -- Allison Keith (Misato Katsuragi)
Sephiroth -- Brian Drummond (Zechs Merquise)
Prof. Hojo -- Tristan MacAvery (Gendo Ikari)
Rufus Shinra -- David Kaye (Treize Khushrenada)
Any thoughts? Should I? Shouldn't I?

Cutting production "costs"
The real production cost here would be time. How I plan to cut that a bit is by actually drawing and scanning only the keyframes of the animation, and creating the in-betweens by manipulating said keyframes in Photoshop with my computer art tablet (which will also be used to color each keyframe) so I don't have to draw EVER SINGLE FRAME over again.
Once I save each clip as a layered Photoshop file, I can then place the sequences into Adobe ImageReady and export them as high-resolution Quicktime movies for editing in Adobe Premiere.
I've been scouring sound effects sites for the past couple of months for sound bits ous for tinglike explosions, sword draws, magic, crahes, etc. I'm planning on 3 audio tracks: one for the music (which will be the first part of the orchestrated FF7 World Map theme off the Reunion CD, tnbreaking into orchestrated One Winged Angel), one for the voices, and the third for sound effects.
Yes, yes, feel free to say it. I'm insane.
If you want to see an example of some artwork I've put out, go to my .org profile: http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... rofile.php
I drew my profile image and colored it using Photoshop.
Thoughts? Does this idea sound as half-baked as it appears?

Update
Well, it's official. I've currently begun work on this project that will probably destroy what little sanity I've got left and hopefully screw with unsuspecting viewers' heads (and possibly breathe new life into Final Fantasy vids?).
So far, I've finished the preliminary storyboard (the entire trailer), and am now moving on to the secondary storyboards (storyboarding each separate clip).
As for voices, this is the entire cast I've picked out (with a reference):
Cloud Strife -- Mark Hildreth (Heero Yuy)
Tifa Lockhart -- Allison Keith (Misato Katsuragi)
Aeris Gainsborough -- Lisa Ann Beley (Relena Peacecraft)
Barret Wallace -- (yet to be cast)
Yuffie Kisaragi -- Tiffany Grant (Asuka Langley Sohryu)
Red XIII -- Keith David (Goliath from Gargoyles and the Boar God from Princess Mononoke)
Vincent Valentine -- Andrew Philpot (D in Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust)
Cid Highwind -- Jeff Harding -- (Kusanagi from X)
Cait Sith -- Scott McNeill (Rattrap on Beast Wars)
Sephiroth -- Brian Drummond (Zechs Merquise)
Rufus Shinra -- David Kaye (Treize Khushrenada)
Prof. Hojo -- Tristan MacAvery (Gendo Ikari)
Tseng -- Guil Lunde (Kozou Fuyutsuki)
And thus begins the death of my precious but expendable sanity....

Good luck to you, although if you manage to do this, you'll definately get a sampling of what several anime artists actually do. There have been some impressive frame by frame edits in AMVs, but if you can pull this off, it'll likely be the first completely frame-by-frame edited video. Heck, I can't recall ever seeing a Final Fantasy trailer, except for the official commercials for Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy X. I'll be very interested in seeing your results.
