Just because your song is five minutes long,

doesn't mean your AMV needs to be.

Why is it that so many AMV editors never edit the music?

Because editing the song in an AMV is retarded.

I feel that if you can't use the whole song in an AMV (the ones that use only one song) then don't use that song.

For me if I edit the song you lose some meaning to the song. Plus it is more difficult than you think to remove a verse or a chours out of a song. I tried removing a verse out of one of the songs a local band did because the lead singer just had to throw in thrash screaming when it was not necessary and it is very difficult to make it sync up. I'm sorry if you attention span can not hold for five minutes than there is either something wrong with the amv or the person watching it does not care for the music.

For example Whisper of the Beast a long amv but an awsome amv at that. Eventhough the video is over 6 minutes long it always holds your attention. Also I was watching VH1 the other day and they were saying Metallica "Master of Puppets" is eight minutes long but it is a song that will hold your intrest throughout the whole thing. So I would not necessarily blame the creator for using a song that is longer than 5 minutes. I would have to say the creator has to make the video interesting if they want to hold peoples attention.

Another amv back at AWA last year I forget what is called but it was a 25 minute long Marylin Manson AMV and after 15 minutes I realized the amv was still going on when I checked the time and I had not realized it. I would warn people to go take a break before watching it. Anyways there are good amv's out there that last for more than 5 minutes and will hold you attention.

There's plenty of reasons to cut the audio, or not too. It just depends on what you're going for. If you don't have enough footage/scenes or whatever to support the whole song, it's better to cut it then to meander along with nothing.

I said "The ones who just use one song". If you're going to do multi-songs or have a point in mind it's okay, but when you just want to do the song to the anime and cut it because you don't want to do the whole length, it just makes me think you're lazy.

I generally edit the entire song because I can't cut the song and make it sound clean.

I hardly ever use the entire song. My videos would be a heck of a lot worse if I ever tried to.

Thats easy just choose a different song, there are plnty of songs in the world and if worst comes to worse you can always buy a remix of the song. Though my videos are never more than 4 minutes in length.

Same here Zarxrax.

IMHO, most AMVs, even many of the good ones, would be a lot better if they ran closer to the three minute mark than the five.

There's no reason to not use a song because of it's length.

Editing is editing. You are missing out on half the job if you don't at least consider editing the audio.
