The reason most of you have stopped making vids
I think it is because the standards have raised. Especially, the reason for Ryan announcing his quitparture was because a 'good' video's standards have risen so much that they take months and months of work.
People can make a well edited, fast paced video in a month or two. Before, it was praised. Now it goes unnoticed. Most of us don't have the time or motivation to continue with these insanely hard projects.

Have raised what?Pyle wrote:I think it is because the standards have raised.
No. It was because he HAS NO COMPUTER (hasn't had one for months) and doesn't see himself getting a new one anytime soon. Also, he's moving.Pyle wrote:Especially, the reason for Ryan announcing his quitparture was because a 'good' video's standards have risen so much that they take months and months of work.
I'm pretty sure that depends on the video.Pyle wrote:People can make a well edited, fast paced video in a month or two. Before, it was praised. Now it goes unnoticed.
And, of course, its con exposure.

I stopped making videos cause: a) I'm going to college now, b) I have a steady girlfriend (who was a little jeaulous of my vids
), c) started playing guitar a while ago. As far as I'm concerned those are the htings far more important than AMV's.

Well, I personally would like to work on amvs more than I do right now. There are serveral reeasons for it.
1: I have work outside this pahntasy-world as well (drivers-license, a-levels etc)
2: There is a lot of time pressure (due to cons) which makes it almost immpossilbe to create something out of fun, but under pressure to build good videos for the cons and to have them done untill the deadline.
3: Meps. There are a lot of guys who are taking part in serveral meps, so they don't have the time for personal projects.
4: DBZ and the like kiddies flooting the .org. There are too many of them and they contamine the forum.
These are the reasons I would call.

I've been slowed down for the same three reasons. Guitar can take up quite a bit of time if you're doing more than just jamming (which is what i did for 2 years before getting serious about it)Bote wrote:I stopped making videos cause: a) I'm going to college now, b) I have a steady girlfriend (who was a little jeaulous of my vids), c) started playing guitar a while ago. I don't think the standards have been raised at all. The bar is still level. The true problem lies in the floods of highly mediocre videos, and hopelessly bad editors. Seriously, some people just suck, and they don't improve. I like to be optimistic that people can improve, but gawd. Some people are good at some things, and some people aren't. If you obviously suck then move on

But yeh, its not the standards at all. It all lies in the massive increase in the rate of videos released. Think about it, in 2005 36354 videos were released. That means in a single year about 40% of the entire collection of AMVs catalogued on a-m-v.org were uploaded. The fact of the matter is, with more videos being uploaded, you have more stuff to sift through before you find something that satisfy's your own AMV needs. Eventually there comes a point where you just give up searching for music/anime combinations you like, and you just download new releases from creators you trust to make something good. The bar has not moved. I have seen incredibly mediocre videos get huge stats ratings, and huge appraisals, and then seen absolutely gorgeously artistic AMVs completely flop when it comes to getting noticed. There's a lot of stuff out there, and its harder and harder for new creators to get noticed.
Although you always get the exceptional few who are destined to shine through, look at Kisani and Nessephanie, one of which, with absolutely no doubt in my mind, will come away with Rookie of the Year.
The bar is still. The people are lazy. The creators are just as good/bad as they always were.

I don't think it's the standards going up. I think it is life catching up. Most people starting this hobby I would think had some significant chunks of free time on their hands. As they get older they get more responsabilities and can't pump them out as much. I can't remember where it was but I was joking with somenoe online here that the retirement age for making amvs is 24. Of course that isn't true but a lot of times it's around then that you are settling into new full time jobs, making a family if you choose, getting your own house, etc. Even with the younger editors, maybe they are going to college and need to focus on all those applications.
Raising the standards never stopped people from making videos before. Look at all the number of videos here that don't "meet the standards." Whatever the standards are, I don't think it's the contributing factor of editors quitting.
