What videos do you want to have in better quality?

Post by Turbo » Wed Jan 25, 2006 6:00 am

There are some classic AMVs that I watch very often. Is there any way to get them in better quality? Without remastering them by myself? What videos do you want to have in better quality? Or I'm the one who cares about source-quality...

Here is my list of videos:
Believe
Caffeine Encomium
Sleep Now
The End of Me
Transformation
Right Now Someone Is Reading This Title
Souls of Rage and Sorrow
To Hell and Back
Pokemon - Bitches[/url]

Get the original creators to remaster them instead?

That would require making the entire video over again from scratch. The original was made from VHS captured at 320x240, and was edited in Ulead Media Studio...all files have been deleted for years. So someone would have to go through the video frame by frame to reconstruct it...and good luck with the overlays, because even I have no idea what all is in there :P
I have no idea how to use this new forum.

Part of the joy of older videos is that they aren't perfect. They have their flaws and you know the work that went into making them. The same video would take so much less time with DVD rips and such, but they just wouldn't be the same.

Some of creators of these videos still come to forum sometimes, may be they'll make it? I hope so.

They wouldn't be the same they'll be better. It's joke of course. This new video will be just different and will have the same or even better value in the eyes of the new members (I know some guys who just don't download "VHS-source" clips) and can replace or add to collection of old AMV fans, like me. =)
Why do you think Gainax made Renewal version of Evangelion, why Hollywood will make HDTV version of their movies? Why museums repair their old work of art?
May be the real "work of art" in AMV genre need second birth?

I don't think that its impossible. This process just require much more time if you want to make the exact output. But it's easily than create really original and high-rated video, because you already have the goal template.
We all observe how a-m-v.org are filled by hundreds of unoriginal, bad timing, subtitled, DBZ, Linking Park videos. They are useless and just bring turmoil. If all effort of many poor AMV-creators put in Remstering they'll do one good video and will have some lesson how to do some effects or lyp-sync.

Or we can just re-master all the DBZ Videos :P

Quite honestly, I really don't see why some people are so obsessed with remastering... You don't see painters redoing thier works... Now Remaking a concept into something new is fine IMO...

Besides, some video have vidual effects and overlays that would be impossible to reproduce unless you spent way more time then it's worth... That and the fact that old errors in video are what make it unique in itself...

I agree with Vlad. I think that the poor video quality of classic AMVs make them feel more... classic. It reminds you that these videos are still awesome by today's standards, even though they didn't have all the technology and good video codecs we do today.

Yeah, it's like comparing the new Star Wars to the original Star Wars a few decades ago... part of the charm of the truly awesome videos which are rather dated is that they were created to be above others of their time, creatively and technically.
