Editing in Photoshop does it give you nightmares?

For the past two days now I've been working in photoshop for about 6 hours and I have 5 frames done for a lipsyncing part. Each time I cut out the character it takes about an hour or so. Does that sound about right. I mean of course I just started working with photoshop. I do have one question is it possible to cut three frames at once. For example if you have Inu Yasha and he is trying to lipsync and the only thing that is changing is his mouth. Can you cut him out like you normally do just for one and then go back in afterwards and touch it up? Does this make sense? I'm just trying to find an easier way to do this. I mean I do have the patience to do it. This right now is very time consuming.

Seems like you're talking about rotoscoping. Yes, it is quite time-consuming to do well. As for your question, if there is no body movement during the part in question, only lip, then yes, that can be done. Cut out the character's outline, then open the frame with the lip position you want in another window. Lasso out the mouth, cut it, and paste it onto your character. You'll have to nudge it some to get it in just the right position. Repeat as necessary for other lip movements.

I do hope you're using the pen tool and if you're just moving the mouths. It's more easier if you do it the first time then paint over the mouth part, copy and paste other part of the mouth, re-position right, and save.

Heh. Well, I taught him how to edit frames in photoshop. However, I didn't exactly have enough time to show him how the pen tool works.

Lasso out the mouth, cut it, and paste it onto your character. You'll have to nudge it some to get it in just the right position. Repeat as necessary for other lip movements.

It's easier to make a wide rectangular selection with crossing as many lines as possible, like nose, hair strands, if possible borderline between face and background. That way you find very fast the correct position. Of course it's not always possible.

If the movement is very minimal in the frames you are using, there is a trick into mass editing it which usually involves some kind of process programming/queing... which I don't know how to do from the top of head... that's when I yell accross the hallway and call my Media student brother into my room

All you really need to do is make an image matte for Inu Yasha since his body isn't moving.

Photoshop is actually the only program I enjoy using. Seems a tad more visual. Premiere and other strictly video-related stuff on the other hand...
