Are AMV's a lot more tedious to make now?

Post by Pyle » Tue Jul 05, 2005 1:28 am

I remember that before I could just get out a song and some episodes, and the AMV took almost no time at all. Now it seems it takes months just to finish one minute of footage. Is it the same for you guys?

why do you insist on asking stupid farking questions like this?

of course its more tedious now, people always demand more! you make a great vid, people want better.. you make a crappy vid, people hate you.. its true with many different things, not just amvs.. but in short, yes, their more tedious to make now that people expect more!

i must be a n00b by that description, it could be cause youre putting more thaught into your video making now compared to when you first started..

ive noticed that my first 5 videos i made in 1 night each, with maybe 3-4 hours of work..

now i am up to 3-4 nine hour days of work to make an amv, but its that i am actually putting coherent thaught into video making

but then again i have alot of time on my hands lately

Oh but it will... at least for the most of us anyway... no matter how innovative the editing tool you are using might be, it's just going to get more complicated and complications require time...

Hmm... tedious... taking a long time to do a project doesn't necesarily mean it's tedious work... I've worked on a video before which took me a while to make (in terms of actual total editing time) but it's because I took my time to get things just right in a very delicious way. I didn't find it 'tedious' though because I knew exactly what I want and I barely hit a snag in the whole editing experience.

AMV_4000 has it right
even if your the only one who see's the video you usually will take mor time and pay more attention to detail on the next one, at least i do

Less tedious for me actually. My second and third were the most tedious because I was teaching myself editing and effects. My last four or five I already knew how do what I wanted so I didn't have to teach myself anything which makes it so much easier. Two of the videos I'm working on now requires learning something new and I find it odd, and annoying, that I've spent more time on them with not even a beta to show for it than I spent on my last four videos combined.

OTOH, a glace at any of my last four videos will show plenty of spots where I obviously just said 'good enough, no reason to try and get this crap to be PERFECT.' There's something about comedies that just brings out the lazy in me, I can't justify editing past the point where I think I got across the joke.

I wouldn't say tedious as much as time-consuming and labor-intensive. Most things in editing become a bit easier with practice, but you also start to become less easily satisfied with "good enough". So you tend to spend more time getting everything the way you'd like it. At least, that's true as far as my experiences. Then sometimes you decide that you'd like to experiment with certain new genres, styles, or effects, and that takes some time as well. I tend to think that an increase in the amount of time spent editing each successive video is reflected in the quality of said videos. That seems to be the general trend, anyhow.
