There are few of how to guides what one do I start with

I've done some encoding in the past, but I haven’t in a long time. Which guide should I start with ? The in depth guide on dvd encoding is the one I'm using now. Is the guide just for cutting out the clips? then I move onto the next guide?

I strongly suggest you read Ermac and Absolute Destiny's guide at least once. Possibly more, at least for the relevant sections. All you ever need to know about technicalities in AMV's is well-covered there. It's a long read, but well worth it if you're serious about editing.

the guides aren't really in order, but i'd suggest phade's guide first, especially if you aren't familiar with the amv making process. absolutedestiny and ermac's guide covers the how-to and some theory on most of the amv making process except the editing part (though it provides a few suggestions). vicbond's guide is a condensed version of ad & e's guide, although it is a bit out of date.

most of the other guides describe the editing process. which of these you should read depends on what software and limitations you have, and what you want to do with your video.

Except PixieDust

(and <a href="http://www.aquilinestudios.org/wmm2guide.html">these bits on getting footage into WMM2</a> and <a href="http://www.aquilinestudios.org/mpegforc ... ">encoding to MPEG for conventions</a> :P )

But seriously, yes, do read E&AD's A/V guide. I found it hugely helpful when I was starting in this hobby two years ago, and I still pretty much follow it today.

and FFT3DFilter :)

Though, heck, I'll plug myself again:

After reading EADFAG, the technical content on AMVWiki becomes a lot more accessible and informative. So that might also be a good place to look. (It'd be nice if EADFAG wasn't an implicit prerequisite, but it takes a lot of time to get wiki content to that point...)[/code]
