I want to know, when it comes to making AMVs, what do you think is a good idea or a bad idea?
Good Idea: Using songs that haven't been used here at the .org
Bad Idea: Making more AMVs to Linkin Park's "In The End" and Evanescence's "Bring Me To Life" (This site has hundreds of them)
Good Idea: Doing something that hasn't been done.
Bad Idea: Making more DBZ AMVs (Not to dis DBZ, but this site has over 7,500 and counting)

It would be nice if originality or quality were as easy as picking the "right" anime or song, but unfortunately, it's not quite that easy. Though having an unusual song or anime may help, it's not automatically original or good.
Essentially - you have to try harder than that, and everything depends on the final product. Some AMVs can make an overused song/anime seem to work. Some are boring even with songs that no one's ever heard of and anime that hardly get used. It's more complicated than that.
So basically I'd have to agree with Pwolf. You can't boil it all down to "do this, don't do that." Know what's used often, just because it's good to know, but also know that going against that doesn't automatically make everything great, or original.
There aren't any Unbreakable Rules in AMV making. There are Rules It's Difficult to Break Well, but nothing is as simple as that.

Can't win the argument in that case... There isn't any...
Just cause there's 10 x infinity amv/linkin' bark vids doesn't mean there's too many. We'll leave that to the server owners to decide when it's filled with like 95% Linkin' Bark Z and then 5% of "other".
People can just make their own vids. The thing that people should be careful about is nasty biting remarks made by everyone [including myself...]
If you're going to make a vid you want others to see and enjoy, then by all means, make it and slap it on here! Even if it's overused, and then you get lambasted with lots of hateful remarks like, "Been there done that." or "another one, try something else..." etc.
I just hope people make vids for the right reasons. [namely their own.] If you're making vids to wow the masses, then you should do that. If you're making vids cause "you can". Then well, expect to be BURIED by the other vid makers here.
I for one make vids for the selfish intention that I want to be revered as someone with skill and can move the hearts of people so that they all want to jump up and be happy!!! [hence the majority of high fx upbeat dance vids from me...
]

I agree with what you're saying, but I never said DBZ sucked, and nothing I say here should discourage anyone from making AMVs that they want to make. Nothing that is said here should offend or discourage anyone from making AMVs of their choosing. When I started this thread, my intention was for creators, based on how they make their own AMVs, to share what they think is a good idea or a bad idea. Also I wanted creators to share, with other creators, and for AMVs in general, what they think is a good idea or bad idea. I was hoping that all posts here will based on personal opinions.
