remake/remaster some1 elses amv without taking credit
I'm new to the forum so i don't know where this question belongs.
If i remake/remaster someone elses amv, can i upload it if i decline all credit and give credit to original creator? I downloaded an amv that was well done but if it was tweaked a bit it could be soo much better. Im going to remake it anyway for my own veiwing pleasure. i just want to know if i can upload it.

I think thats a really good way to piss people off. First off, its a big rule at a-m-v.org NOT to use other people's footage. AT ALL. Secondly, waving around the fact that you "improved" someone's amv in their face, even if it IS better, is an insult and rude.
If you really want to do something like that, email the creator of the amv BEFORE doing ANYTHING to it, ask permission, and respect whatever they have to say.

It's frowned upon unless you have the original creator's blessing (and even then it's not particularly original).
Am I the only person who can watch a bad video to a good concept, say "Meh" to it, and move on and find my own ideas?

There's also the issue of what you do when the creator can't be contacted, which would seem to be an entirely different beast.AmazonMandy wrote:If you really want to do something like that, email the creator of the amv BEFORE doing ANYTHING to it, ask permission, and respect whatever they have to say.

thanx for the quick reply's i hadn't really thought of doing the email thing cuz last time i emailed a vid with my old cpu the system crashed. and the point was not to fluant any better amv making skills or anything, mostly becuase i don't have them. It was to make someting the fans of the music/anime would be proud to have in their collection. I've seen soo many amvs with sweet concepts/music-anime/timing, but the effort put into them was minimal. sorry if i offended anyone by asking this question.

if i can contact the creator and send him/her the recreation then it will stay on my hardrive alone forever. I don't intend on doing anything rash that could possibly get anyone pissed off. Oh yeah... Does a question like this belong here?

I actually think what AmazonMandy is saying is that you should've asked the original creator for permission before actually editing the video.batmanMG wrote:thanx for the quick reply's i hadn't really thought of doing the email thing cuz last time i emailed a vid with my old cpu the system crashed. and the point was not to fluant any better amv making skills or anything, mostly becuase i don't have them. I kind of look down on things like this. If someone told me that Absolution [created by Jasper-Isis and myself] wasn't really as good as it could have been, and told me that they had "remastered" it, I'd feel bad. I put my effort into that video, just for someone else to "make it better." I know your intentions are good, but sometimes its better to just leave things the way they are. I think a good idea would just be to leave an opinion. Definitely comment on the creator's cool concept, and give constructive criticism and point out what to improve on. That way, maybe the creator will put more effort into the next vid, or someday remaster their own vid. [sorry if this doesn't really make sense ^^;]

Oh yeah. *Twitches* That was harsh. Especially the claim that the original didn't fit the meaning of the lyrics (I am thinking of the right kid, am I?), and uses the English version of the song when that's one of the most inaccurate 'translations' - I use that word loosely - I've ever heard (Du Hast is the worst that I've heard, but meh).Farlo wrote:i remember when everyone was pissed off when some kid remade caldwell's engel video with the english version of the song
Of course, if you're talking 'remastering', that's not the same as 'remaking'. Remastering simply means to improve the picture quality by using a better quality source and keeping all the original timing (or recreating it within a frame or two difference).
Again with the Kevin Caldwell:

My mouth dropped when I saw this. A true remastering.
